Mic pre into 802a

Do you guys think it would be a good idea to put a mic through a pre into the behriger 802a?

have neva used a mic pre but just wanted to know what i should do

dogmatic, the main thing is to be careful with your hearing, especially
if you crank up the gain and listen with your headphones.
Secondarily, you can set the mixer to unity gain ("noon" settings),
and then slowly raise the gain on your mic pre watching your input meter.
This is assuming your signal chain is "-10 db" not "+4" BTW.
Also avoid accidently switching the phantom power on the mixer when you
use it on the mic pre-one is enough!

i never turn my gain past 11:00 on my behringer its starts to get harsh sounding.
