mic pre amp for under $1000

i am in the market for a mic pre amp or channel strip with spdif out my budget is $1.000 all i do is voice over i would like a spdif out so i can run in my audio interface and my interface goes to firewire in my pc i was looking at a aphex 230 someone told me about but i called and they where sold out please let me know what you guys this is it worth waiting for are should i look into another pre amp/channel strip most of what i record is country my interface is a steinberg mr 816xi would like something with eq compressor and maybe a de-easer

the compressor is no big whoop but it works great for vox
the eq is as sweet as you will find at this price and the pre is pretty clean with a lot of headroom

I have an ssl alpha vhd and I love it. It pretty clean and quiet, there is a vhd, if you need a little harmonics.
I think it's great for country music. Haven't used the eq, but I'd imagine it would be nice.
does the alpha channel have an option for spdif?

You simply have to check out the Joemeek twinQ granted it's 2 channel but if you have 2 microphones for different techniques say a dynamic on one channel and a condenser on the other channel then your prepared for anything once you have them both dialed in!

What microphones are you using now?

I would have a EV re-20 in your arsenal of microphones for voice over work.
