I am recording a lead vocal with two mics and I seem to be having phase issues.
Should the mics be as close as possible to each other?
1 ft apart and a ft from the source?
Should I not try this at home.

Try putting the capsules as close as possible..: one on top of the other maybe would work well for you..

with digital audio processint, it is quite wurscht where you place the 2nd mic.

You only have to correct the phase by moving the 2nd track a few mili seconds in your pro tools or similar.

Sound makes approximately 330 m/s.

Or in other words sound needs 3ms for traveling 1m.

This is heavily simplified, but in most cases it will work.

If you place the mics close to each other like XY you won't have phase problems. If you follow the 3 to 1 rule you should be ok too... but, you'd most likely get the best results double tracking using only one mic at a time and singing the part twice or however many times it takes to get it right.

Yes indeed... in His name. Keep looking up my friend. :)

Nowadays the main purpose for micing vocals with two mics is not to simply double them, but to have two different sounding sources.
This allows you, to take the best shot, or blend from the front-up miced track to the distant-miced tracked to move the singers voice far away from the listener when needed by the song

Did Jesus really ask you to ask that for him?
According to christian doctrine, jesus and god are the same (father=son=holy ghost), so he is actually asking for god. When god needs to know something about recording, he comes here for his answers!

And DJL gives him what he needs.

Big Kenny is showing his faith in the Lord God Almighty by signing his post with "in His name" and I was letting Kenny know that I too believe in the Lord. ;)

So JC comes here for recording info? What's his handle? I have some questions for him next time he shows up.:D

That's fine for you all personally, but completely inappropriate for a forum like this that has nothing to do with religion. And to me it is offensive. How would you feel if I signed all my posts:

"man has created god in his own image - no wonder the world is so fucked up"

The forum has turned into a pissing board and post about microphones are far and few. I believe in freedom of speech and freedom of religion... so, I'd feel fine and not have a problem with that.

DJL- That's not true. In this one thread alone we've learned about the 3:1 rule, that Kenny is God's mouthpiece and that you are God's asshole.

I disagree with DJL almost all the time - except in this case.
Freedom of speech and freedom of religion are two of the foundations of our society. As a person of faith, I find it encouraging that Big Kenny signs off the way he does. You may or may not agree with me. But it's his right to write whatever he wants.

I agree. Just remember that whenever I or many other agnostics see a post on a non-religious forum promoting one's religious beliefs. we interpret it as the poster saying for all the world to see:

"I am a fucking idiot"

But I absolutely agree with your right to say it! :)

just to let you know, those who believe dont give a flying fuck how you interpret it.......

I know, not a problem. "Believers" in general don't give a flying fuck about anything except what they believe is right. Just wanted to let them know the message they're sending out to some of us unbelievers.
Again I would state that religion has no place on a forum like this outside the cave, or as subject matter for song lyrics. But that's just my opinion, and if folks want to make fools of themselves (again just my opinion), so be it. I'm sure I'm a fool in their eyes also.

what if i say something about my dog....do i wonder if i offend people that dont like dogs......

what if i say something about eating a steak......do i wonder if i offend vegans, especially big-headed Canadian ones.........

theirs alot of opinions out there......

my signature on that OTHER bbs says
"it is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt"

you may wanna think about that.....

I thought I might learn something I didn't know about double-tracking vocals on this thread. Guess I was wrong.:(
