"What's the cheapest I can get this for?" Bad place to start, dude. The cheapest you can get will usually suck. Like the cheapest guitar you can get is about $40, except no one can play it. I will however, list some fairly cheap stuff that works.
1. Preamp- M-Audio Audiobuddy $80
M-Audio DMP-3 about $140 (better preamp)
That which says Behringer on it- Not
2. Mic- Cheap Dynamic- Shure SM-57 $80
Sennheiser e835 $80
AKG D770 $80
(I like the Sennheiser best, but many others love the SM57- any of these will work)
Cheap Condenser- Studio Projects B-1 $80
Marshall MXL V67 $80
Any of the above will work, but the best choice is the one that makes *you* sound good
stand- My best choice- build a "Frankenstand". Get an On Stage boom (just the boom) from 8th street- about $19, and a straight stand with a round base
- about $19. Get a 20 lb. weight lifters weight at a yard sale, and slide it down over the stand. This will take up less room on the floor than a cheap tripod boom stand, and won't tip over. Good for drum kits.
Pop filter- for wicked cheap- Go to a fabric store and buy a 5" embroidery hoop. Stretch a layer of pantyhose over it and attach it to some coathanger wire and duct tape it the the mic stand.
Good one- Stedman 101 steel pop filter. Sounds better than nylon, clamps right to the stand, never wears out, and costs $50. Whatever works for you.
Shock mount- Depends on the type of mic. For the condensers above, Marshall V57, $24.95 at 8th street. For the dynamics, there's a rubber mounted clip you can buy at Guitar Center called "shockproof", about $7.00, which works fine.
Good Luck-Richie
