i've heard people refer to mic modeling, is there software in CEP or Sonar to do mic modeling?, if not, what software does, and do they work well?

There is nothing built into CEP that does this but there is a plugin called Antares Mic Modeler. It claims to change one mic into another.

I prefer to think of it as an EQ shaping tool. It's like having a bunch of EQ presets.

hmm i thought convolution did that? or is that more of a field of reverb than eq?

"It's like having a bunch of EQ presets."

If it's only EQ, then it's pretty much a waste of time, right?

I think it will benefit some people. It's like an enhancer. It doesn't really change one mic into another as it claims to. It just gives you various tonal presets.

i have it, its not bad. it makes the waveform lopsided though, so it doesnt always match up with other wave forms.

That's a great explaination. The thing that's cool about it is that by just randomly picking some presets, I can sometimes get a REALLY cool sound out of an instrument or vocal track that I never would have considered doing through EQ. I also like it for low end roll off stuff.

I've never had this problem with using A.M.M.

To avoid the "lopsided wave form" you must sing ( or play ) into your mic ON AXIS. Otherwise AMM won't work correctly.

Antares makes a Mic modeler Direct X plugin that's quite good. I tried the demo for a few days. Nice, but not really worht the $$$$.
