Mic Like AKG d19

Anybody here have a D19? I broke mine. :( And I'm not going to pay $500 for a new/used one and I don't think this one can be fixed. I sort of was taken by the way it sounded and have been obsessing over since it broke. I'm wondering if anyone who has had one knows of another type of dynamic that is comparable.

Also anyone have an EV re15?
 
There is a D19 on ebay for I think $125. bye it now.
But which D19 are you looking for?

Yo Moresound- That's the windscreen adaptor for a D19-$129. So solly- it's a $500 or-so mic.
Yup- it sounds a lot like a Sennheiser MD441, which costs even more.
The closest thing I know of to that sound in a more affordable mic are AKG D3700M tripower, and the older D330BT with the bass cut engaged. Both can be found for a lot less than $500, mostly because The Beatles never used them.

You know I think I'm going to set up an eye appointment, It's been about 5 years with these glasses and I think I just can't fool myself any longer....I need new spectacles.

Those sennheiser look cool. I just checked them out. Yup, expensive.
 
The tripower series were great mics, but they didn't sell at their intended price point, and you can find them used for cheap, although the example I used above looks beat up as hell.
The D3700 is cardioid, and the D3800 is supercardioid. I find the polar pattern and proximity field of the D3800 too unforgiving to use as a vocal mic, so I use it on things that don't move (it rocks on piano). The D3700, however, is one of the most underated dynamic vocal mics out there. I bought mine new for $100. AKG wanted about $375 for them. That never happened, which is why it was discontinued.-Richie
 
Hey Richard, when did the d3700's come on the market? Just curious. They look 80's. I found one locally I might pick up.

I'm really interested now in finding different dynamic mics now that I see how different they can sound.

I don't want to get TOO interested though because it's an expensive hobby. :D
 
As near as I can tell from data sheets, the architect's specs were released in May of 1999, and the mic probably became available late that year. I have no idea when it was discontinued, but it was within a few years of now. And although early reviewers said it was cardioid, the architect's specs say it's a supercardioid, and the D3800 is hypercardioid.-Richie
