"mic in"

Does anyone know what kind of voltage the "mic in" on a crappy s/c sends?

Im SURE its not 48VDC.. but is it equivalent to "plug-in-power" from the MD/DAT world? That being a bias voltage of between 1.5 and 10 Volts DC at the microphone input jack?

??

Also, any details would rule regarding this... I HEAR that the MIC jack is a stereo plug.. and the Voltage travels on the ring.. is it true??

I guess it differs from card to card. I'm really not into this matter (you said it: crappy s/c, so why bother..) I know that there is an Audiotrak soundcard that puts 12V on the mic but that really says nothing about any other card.
