Last, once you have your mic>pre>soundcard chain you want to use ONLY THE LINE IN ON THE SOUNDCARD! The mic in on soundcards are only for use with cheesey computer mics. Not for recording line level signals to your hard drive.

Is this advice accurate?....or is the Mic input the same deal more or less??? Sounds like it makes sense. Thanks in advance ----ROB

Yes, it's accurate.

Oh shitskers! Even though the vocals on my 2 song demo CD came out air-quality, should I experiment and lay down new vocal tracks using the LINE IN'S? Or should I stick to the addage "If it SOUNDS right, it IS right"??? Thanks so much AL (@ usual) ----ROB

mic in/line in

sound diag,
Do you have the tracks available? What are you going to lose by trying it again? You will even learn something about your system. I say TRY IT! (Not only is the PC soundcard's mic pre designed for cheesy computer mics they are designed cheesy too.)

Sound advice Mike, and I had a feeling that was the way to go. Thanks for responding. :)

Dear Mr Mike A. from Memphis,
Thanks for the advice. I whipped out the JOEMEEK preamp and my C67 and A/B'd my voice through the line input and then the mic output into some cakewalk tracks. My wife, at least THIS time, could not discern a difference. I, however, heard a marked difference in clarity and thusly have to RE-DO my 2 song CD demo. A fucking labor of love this is, I swear! Glad I came upon your post. Really glad. ---ROB :D :D :D

I didn't know this was still in question... :p

Forget the mic-in even exists. And be sure not to plug anything else into it while you're recording through the line-in. (i.e. cheesy computer mic) because if you don't have your windows settings set-up right, you can cause "conflicts" between the mic-in and line-in.

Thanks all of you. Can't imagine how I never figgered out that for myself. Whoa is moi'.
