ok so im looking to get 2 new mics. mainly for guitar. i wanna try and stay around 500 dollar range....lower if possible....right now i use a 57 up close and a 990 a few feet back. i was thinking of getting an e609 (sen.) and possibly a blue bluebird....what would be another good condensor choice for guitar micing??
thanks

Wow, just wrote out a response regarding acoustic guitar, not electric... wow. I've been recording acoustic acts for far too long now.

The e609 works quite well on guitar amps... I have always gotten a nice, natural sound out of it. I have also used a small diaphragm condenser (MXL 604), and a large diaphragm (Rode K2). The K2 adds a nice bottom end. Its a little out of your preferred price range, but most of the Rode condensers will work just as well, such as the NT1000 or NT2-A. Both are large diaphragm, but the NT2-A offers multiple patterns, which is always handy, for switching from guitar amps to vocals, to acoustic instruments, etc. I suggest Rode over the MXLs mainly because the Rodes have a more natural sound, and are far less noisy (in my experience).

Just lookin out for the ole bang for the buck buys. Hope that helps!

thanks man.....hey when u track and mix them do u normally have to dynamic or condenser louder in the mix?

Usually depends on how much room reverb ends up sneaking into the condenser. The e609 is so focused that it doesn't pick up much of the world around it beyond the amp... the condenser, on the other hand, picks up a fair amount depending on how I position the mic etc. However, usually they get mixed about even if the room reverb isn't too bad on the condenser.

I prefer the e609 over the SM57 for guitar amps. I've got the cheaper 'silver' version, but I hear that the black version is much better. I know that some people prefer the 57, but I find the 609 easier to set up. With a 57, I have to spend more time getting it in just the right spot.

The only real difference, is the 609 has a better mid range sound for guitars, even though the 906 still has a presence filter select switch, it's still more transparent and might take a little longer to get a decent tone out of.

I.M.O. if you're just using it for guitars, i'd go with the 609. it's colored and designed for micing guitars. it's my favorite guitar mic. it goes along great with the audix i5.

Personally, i am not a huge fan of the 57, actually i hate the thing. i'd pick the i5 over it anyday.

Another cool thing about the 609, is it's really easy to get good tone, really quickly. with it's flat capsule design, you can get it really close to the source. my favorite position is halfway between the edge and the cone, paralleling the face of the speaker.(at a lit bit of an angle)

hope this helped.

hey ok cool so the 609 is better ill get that........one more thing someone above said something about silver and black. i see the silver on sweetwater 4 109 but cant find the black what is it??
