I'm trying to purchase a mic to record hip hop/r&b tracks to my pc. The problem is that I am a novice to pc music recording and need a little help with what kind of mic and equipment I will be needing. Lets put it like this...can you explain how to connect a mic to the pc...and what equipment is needed to make it work well. I am using the cubase vst 3.2, but I really have not learned it well yet, so any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

So not only will you need a mic, you'll need a preamplifier, preferably one with phantom power because the mic you get may need this to work.
If your soundcard is the one that came with your computer, you'll eventually need to replace it to get an adequate sound, but for starters try the one you have.
My suggestions would be the Studio Projects B1 mic ($80) and their VTB1 preamp ($130) or an Audiobuddy preamp ($80) by M-Audio.
