Hello, newbie here (first post). I'm looking to make a small investment in a microphone. I've been looking at microphones in the $400 range. I was reading reviews on the Guitar Center website and as of now I'm deciding between The Blue Baby Bottle and the Sterling Audio ST66. Obviously price isn't an issue as they are exactly the same price. Does anyone here own both or has at least recorded with them? Also, if you have any suggestions besides these 2 please feel free. Thanks in advance!!

If it were me ... I would go with the Blue.

But there are so many variables to your question.

First variable----------what do you intend to use it for?. Both are good mics anyway.

I realize i should have been more detailed. BUT I intend to use it primarily for vocals and maybe for any acoustic instruments.

ALSO, what's your take on buying used microphones?

I intend to use it primarily for vocals and maybe for any acoustic instruments. ?

If it's your vocals then it does depend on your voice really and what suits you best. I do like Blue mics in general but the baby bottle has been the only one i've been slightly disappointed with, however it may be perfect for your voice and your needs. In the same price band i do really like the sE stuff (2200a, X1, Z3300a if you can find it) and Avantone stuff, although the avantone stuff is slightly "softer" sounding. As always if you can get out and try them it usually makes choosing easier.

And my experience of buying second hand music gear has been good, especially from shops. if it's on t'bay i'd say maybe check to see if the seller has a decent returns policy just in case
