I walk the line
I have to get a bunch of old crumbly, sticky foam off of my 545s,and I just want to make sure that it's OK to use a vac hose on them as I go to keep as much of that stuff from getting inside as I can.

They're 57-like dynamics, so I don't figure much will hurt them, but they are 35+ years old, so I don't know about whether or not that means the diaphrams might be more fragile.

Thanks.

Is the old crumbly foam stuck to the plastic diaphragm cover and mesh grille, or just to the body of the mic? If it's stuck to the black plastic diaphragm and mesh grille, you might try using duct tape instead of a vac... stick the duct tape onto the offending crumbles, and peel it away from the mic. Think of it as the same principle as a lint remover. The crumbles and related goo should stick to the duct tape, and the diaphragm won't be damaged by the vac.

using a vac on a mic would constitute a seriously dumb-boy act... cant ya remove the cover???
