Mic Cable Outlets?

Have you compared the the Chinese generic Neutrik look alikes to a real Neutrik? They are quite different. No rubber boot on the Chinese and they usually have some screwy plastic self crimping cable locking mechanism. Then there is just build quality... the Neutrik are simply heavier. Still hate Switchcraft. :) (Debate, what debate?) And at the end of the day.. no one will hear the difference on the record. "Damn hell, I think I hear Neutrik on that there recording!"

Well, sorry, but you might want to take another look at them then.

The Chinese GLS connectors have tighter, more flexible boots than the Neutriks I have (NC3FX and NC3MX), and the Neutriks have an almost identical screwy plastic self crimping cable locking mechanism...The housing is made of the same metal, same guage, and same weight...I'm looking at them as I speak...

I'm trying like hell to find a difference beyond the brand, and can't.

Huh... things have changed. Every one I got my hands on was pretty different.

Heh heh...I just yesterday picked up the XLR jack and converter to make one of these jigs...As I was tooling around the garage looking for wood stock to build it with I found a piece of formed metal with the perfectly cut hole to install the jack--Came off an old flourescent fixture...

Yah, my brother in law, had a jig like mine but with male and female chassis connectors and in a metal type U box, and pins 1, 2, 3, are labeled on the metal box so you never forget where to solder what. I use a male to male adapter cause that is what I had on hand, and radio shack didn't sell male chassis connectors, which I am only using a radio shack thing because I got a load of wire and neutrik connectors on a Fri, and I didn't want to wait or drive cross town on monday to go to full compass and buy matching male and female chassis connectors....although I should buy one and then mark out the pins on the 2x4 and then I will never forget where the pins are in relation to each other.

SRR, I bought my XLR jack (female) and male-to-male connector at RS also. $9-plus for the peckerwood adapter! But it works great, been soldering half the day already...

Nice thing about the little U-box metal jig--I can throw it around any way I need it to be and it only takes up about a cubic quarter-of-a-foot...

So, whilst waiting on my decision on what bulk cable to order I've cut and made a few short cables out of the GLS 25' I picked up. The connectors soldered up easily and the connections to my gear was solid and quiet, though I wouldn't expect 5' of cable to be picking up every flourescent balaster and electric transmission line in the county.:D

I know I won't be buying the bulk GLS cable though. The price is good but the cable reflects that price; shield wire is thin and sparse.

I second what he says. I bought a bunch of cables from Speakerrepair a few months back and they have been nothing less than great. They definitely use quality Neutrik connectors and seem to hold together even months later.

The cable at www.speakerrepair.com would be very adequate for live in my opinion, good cabling that you won't be too worried about band members stepping on or tripping over since at $50 for 300ft, its quite a steal.
