Hello,

I am recording with an AKG D880 Emotion vocal mic. I know it's a dynamic mic but even so, when i record at even normal levels, The mic is picking up ALOT of low frequencies. It's making the subwoofer in my computer speaker system buzz...I have a feeling this has something to do with mic placement. How should y microphone be placed for songs that are soft and low, with alot of vocal "movement"? I appreciate any of your responses,

Sounds like you're singing too close to the mic.. try backing of a bit...

Are you sure your not clipping your computer when tracking....

I had the same problem, and realized I was clipping, and it was knocking out all the highs, and just giving me this real low mid-bass type sound.......

Does it sound like that, when just monitoring through headphones, and not recording..... Or is it only on Playback.....?

What DAW are you using?

if your just using your soundcard or a breakout box, don't expect awesome preamps... Im using Digi001 Breakout box.... It's not awesome, but very, decent....

Give some more info, and I'll try and help....

What is a DAW? Im not sure what you mean by "clipping". Proximity may be an issue, but I would also like to know where precisely to set up a mic inside my booth. I run cubase vst32 through a SBLIVE! card, and im using a tascam 4track as a mixer (Cheap, I know). is this enough info?

It's Digital Audio Workshop...... The program(s) you are working with to recording and mix with your computer..... You said you were using a computer speaker system, so I assume, that you are using DAW........ Clipping is overpowering an input/ output......(making it go into the red..)

I see...I use cubase... and no...my levels are fine...volume's not the problem...I'm just getting a sound thats wayyy to bottom heavy, almost muddy. I have already set the eq to "low Shelf" and am compressing it to hell and back, but if I bring the highs up i will probably get hiss... I don't want hiss...anything else? Thanks alot!
