Mic Boom Alternatives?

hello. the singer in my band just dropped nearly $200 on a shure 55 (elvis mic?), because they are very cool looking. he wants to use it it shows, but here's the problem: it looks stupid on a traditional boom stand (the whole 'retro' thing is lost), but it does not protrude on its own like a sm58 would, so it's too hard to reach with your mouth and play guitar when it's on a straight stand.

so my questions may be a little unusual, but does anyone know of any boom alternatives that may retain the classic look of the 55, but at the same time make it easy to sing into a 55 and play guitar at the same time? any suggestions would be appreciated.

Just buy a $5 beater boom stand and defile as needed to achieve the "I don't care how my mic stand looks" look.

Hit eBay, get an old/used boom stand.
File it a little to give it the "I don't care how my mic stand looks" kind of feel.

retro booming

How about a gooseneck on the end of the (chrome, naturally) straight stand? That would likely get him just enough clearance to play guitar and look cool at the same time.

I'd also suggest checking out a gooseneck and see if that does the trick for you.

I'm with DJL. Get a short gooseneck. If that ain't retro, what is?-Richie

The old Atlas Sound boom stands are nice (In chrome), sturdy as a tank and found on Ebay from time to time very reasonably!
