Mia propblems argh!!!!!!!!!

Damn, after waiting for UPS to finally show up with this card, it doesn't want to install properly. If anyone can give me an idea to get this thing going, I would very much appreciate it.

After driver instalation, and restarting windows, mia hardware is detected and searches for software. Everything seems fine except there is no “M” in the task bar, and no mia console to be found. I previously had a SB live card installed.
Things I have done:

1. Install drivers from disk, and echo web site. Both are version 6.0.
2. Checked device manager. It says mia is working properly with no conflicts.
3. Reseated card. Also, moved it to a different PCI slot.
4. Checked Multimedia. It states that no playback or recording devices are enabled.
5. Installed latest Via chipset drivers.
6 Uninstalled all SB Live software and drivers.
7 Checked Control Panel/Multimedia/Devices/Audio Devices. It says echo’s driver enabled but inactive due to an unknown problem.
8.Msconfig/startup shows: "Launch echo 24 console", but no console appears.

couple things to try

one - the mia actually installs 3 drivers, I think... go to your "system" control panel and pull up your "device manager". Is anything highlighted with a yellow question mark over it's icon? If so, select it, hit "delete" and reboot to try to reistall all the drivers correctly.

two - in some versions of windows the mia control panel doesn't autostart unless you manually configure it to do so, but you should have an "echo digital audio" program folder where you can launch it the first time.

oh I thought of a third - be sure to DL the latest drivers from http://www.echoaudio.com and use those!

Yes, get the latest drivers (they changed the way the package them and it's all in one big file on their site.)

Did you check their website for approved motherboard/chipsets before you bought the card????

I have an AMD CPU or non-Intel motherboard chipset. Will Echo products work with them? AMD Athlon processors work great with Echo Digital Audio hardware. You will need a motherboard with one of the following chipsets:

AMD 760 ( Sometimes referred as 761 & 762), AMD760MP, VIA KX-133, VIA KT-133, Via KT-133A

These chipsets are now available on motherboards from numerous manufacturers. Click this link to get a list of manufacturers using this VIA chipset ( http://www.via.com.tw/support/partnerskx133.htm ). Motherboards using the "AMD 750" series chipset or "Apollo pro 133" are not compatible with Echo Digital Audio hardware.

There are many motherboards like ASUS, TYAN, Etc. that work great. The only known board that we do not recommend at this time is ABIT.

And you DONT neccesarily want the mixer app to load in your system tray anyway. People were complaining that that was associated with some clicks and pops they were having and suggested that you disable it and just fire it up when you need to change settings. The file should be in:

c:/windows/system/echo24/echocon2.exe

I disabled the system tray icon in MSCONFIG and then merely went to the above file, created a shortcut and put it on my desktop. Easy access if I need to get to it but once I had everything set I never need to get into it anyway....

And I left my SoundBlaster Live card in with the Mia and are using them together quite successfully. I use the Mia for audio and the SBLive for MIDI, soundfont stuff and CD-audio.

I feel like an eedeeit because I didn't post what my OS/Motherborard/cpu was. I'm running Win 98/Abit KT7 with Via KT133 chipset/Athalon 1GHz cpu. So according to the guys at Echo, it should be happening.
Shaz, I listed that I previously tried the drivers from the echo site, but, still no go.
Tim, I checked for a folder where you specified, but there wasn't an echo folder to be found.
Hopefully the echo staff will help me out when they get back from the namm show. I'm worried because I haven't heard too many good things about their tech support. That's why I turn to you guys. Any other ideas?

I had a similar problem with my MIa and the 6.00 drivers. I installed the driver and the console disapeared. then I reinstalled the earlier drivers and there it was back again...? I'm also running WIN98....
 
It sounds like you thought of all the basics - are there any other cards in your system? I would remove any card except your Video and the MIA card while troubleshooting.
 
At Last!

I went and DL'd the old drivers and what da ya know, it installed correctly(thanks Riku)! Initially though, it didn't. Turns out I had to manually delete the newest drivers before it finally installed. Jeez, talking about bad driver support. Their support tech knows about this "common problem" with win 98 OS's. It seems like they would state this problem on their website. I must have rebooted my poor puter 100 times in the last day. Now I'm having problems with the re-install of SB Live. About a minute into startup the computer freezes. I disabled SB, and I'm still typing so I guess it's a temporary cure. There is an IRQ conflict with a PCI address even though Device manager says otherwise. Any tips on how to configure SB Live to work with Mia? Like to Use SB for CD player etc.
