Hi... I am curious to see if anyone has any experience with the $99 Auralex packages that they sell at Mus Friend/Guitar Center...

I have a drywall room, about 13x18, carpeted floor, that has a nasty "ring" (short reflections) when I clap my hands loudly in the middle of the room.

I have been to Ethan Winer's site, etc, but don't want to spend much money on the room if I don't have to, just to get "acceptable" hobbyist results. (I know I could spend a small fortune if I want to do it right...)

So, do the 1'x1' 2" Auralex panels dispersed throughout the room help? Anyone here used them before? Anyone have a better suggestion?

As a bonus... is there a way to attach them that doesn't require permanent (glue) installation?

Thanks in advance, I appreciate it...

I'm convinced that you could engineer in a shoe box with the proper application of Auralex. For $99, you can't go wrong.

It's likely that if you send your room dimensions to Auralex and tell them the package you're getting, they'll probably tell you the best application for it.

As far as mounting, I'm a big fan of that new Craftsman staple gun. It works better and is far more accurate with one hand than any other gun out there.

Thanks... I think I'll mount them in 4x4 arrays, and use pegboard, so I can move them as needed.... Or maybe use it as an excuse to replace my Black and Decker staple gun... Father's Day is coming up you know... :D

$99 won't get you very far with foam treatment. If money is that tight I suggest you look into making your own panels from rigid fiberglass. It's more work to make them look presentable, but in the end you'll get more bang for the buck.

Thanks Ethan... (and thanks for all the info you present on your site... It's appreciated...)

You wouldn't happen to know if Home Depot, Lowe's etc typically carry the ridgid fiberglass used for acoustic purposes, would you? Is it type 703? (or 307.... ) I guess I could get it mounted up, and covered in some of whatever it is you suggested.... (Damn, my memory is shot today...)

They have rigid fiberglass ceiling panels which are about 1/2" thick with a thin textured plastic layer (for the ceiling surface). You can peel the plastic off easily & glue the results together. Each piece is 2'X4'.

Thanks everyone...
I found a pretty good deal on eBay, and went with it.... (foambymail.com)

48 2" foam panels in my choice of colors for $64.99 w/ free shipping/handling. (I went with the blue...)

Much better deal than MusiciansFriend, and everyone on this Forum that bought the foambymail products was happy with them...

Thanks again, now I have $$ for a new stapple gun... er, uh... I meant bass traps!!!

Whoops!!! Just bought the 12x12x24 inch bass trap set too.... I couldn't help myself... there were 4 of them, and they seemed like such a good deal at $49, free S&H.... Damned eBay, no wonder I'm always broke....
