Hi, I just got my new card (Delta 1010lt) but I don´t remove my old SBLive5.1. Do you know how can I get a metronome sound as I used to have with SBLive...... Yeah I know that 1010lt doesn´t support soundfonts so I wont be able to hear any click. I don´t have any keyboard module or something to play a tick. Do you think that Fruityloops could help me on my needs, creating a click track in wav format then importing it to the project I´m working with SONAR.

Thanx

Tama

If you didn't remove the SB Live, why not continue to use it? Is there some other reason you are keeping it in there?

Al, I just keep it because the soundfonts, that´s the reason. I use to play soccer on my PC but I think I can handle it without sound. Right now with my new Delta1010lt I think I have a lot of work to do until I could get some decent sounds from it. First step: record my drumset and se how it sounds.
Do you think that I must dissable the SBLive, if I do that, how can I set the SONAR metronome for recording and listen the click. There must be another way to use SONAR´s metronome without soundfonts or making a click track in Fruityloops.

Again I ask, if you are keeping the SB Live there, why not simply continue to use it for your metronome? You are continuing to use it for your other MIID instruments, clearly. Why not the mtronome click?

Don't you use Sonar, TamaSabian? Why not just use a DXi to create your own click track.

Create a one measure midi track with clicks on the quater note (I use the cross stick sound), then copy and paste it for however many measures you need, and route the midi track to a DXi (the VSC works great for this).

Let me see if I understand. I got two options:

1. Route my SBLive to my Delta1010lt in order to use the metronome played with soundfonts.
2. Use a Dxi (what exactly is that???) to create a midi track with clicks and then route it to a VSC. Does SONAR comes with a DXi and a VSC, I think that there´s a DXi inside MIDI effects sub-menu. But I´m not so sure how this thing works.

Dachay, could you explain it for me??.

There's a third option -- get a small mixer and use it to combine the outputs of the SB Live and the Delta1010LT and drive your power amp/speakers from the mixer.

About DXi -- that's short for DirectX instrument -- that is, a synth that works as a DirectX plugin in host software. SONAR comes with a couple, including the Roland VSC (virtual Ssund Canvas) that should serve your needs. How to use them is all there in the docs.

Great, I´ll try it and see how it works. BTW I do have a small mixer, I could route the SB through it and solve my problem.

Thanx

As AlChuck said, it stands for DirectX Instrument. A DXi allows you to playback midi using software rather than hardware - so it doesn't matter what sound card you have, or whether you have an external synthesizer.

There are a couple bundled with Sonar (including a demo of Live Synth Pro, which allows you to use Sound Fonts without have a Creative sound card). The one you want to use for this is the Virtual Sound Canvas (VSC).

It's actually pretty easy to use.

First go to View -> Toolbars and make sure the Views toolbar is selected. On the Views toolbar you will see an icon for DXi. Select it and a window will open. Click on the icon to the far left on this window (looks like a star) and choose Edirol VSC. On the popup window, select Midi Source Track and First Synth Output and click OK.

This will insert two tracks into your project - one midi and one audio (both will be labeled Edirol VSC - you can rename them if you want). On the Midi track click the down arrow next to Channel (Ch) and choose channel 10, then click the down arrows next to Bank and Patch and choose Drumset and then whatever set you want to use.

Open the Piano Roll View for the midi track and draw in 4 quarter note beats using whatever percussion device you want to use for your click. As I said, I use a cross stick, but you can use a cowbell, snare, tamborene or whatever you want.

Close PRV, copy and paste the measure you just created to the remainder of the Midi track.

Click the play button. :D

It should now playback through your Delta card.

Thanks Dachay, I never "experiment" with VSC so it was totally new for me until now. I´ll check it out.
After many hours of being down on my knees trying to connect everything (my PC is on a computer desk against the wall) , it´s difficult to reach the cables but it´s not impossible . Now I can do headphone monitoring through my mixer and use my SBLive for the click track (I´ll try VSC and see what´s better for me). I´m a little confused with the ins and outs, I have to memorize wich source it´s attached to what. Delta Control Panel it´s a little confusing, I have to be patient with myself, three days have passed since I got my new card.

If you don't want to mess with softsynths for a click track here is an easy method that I use.

Record a 'Click' sound either through a softsynth or mic.

Paste that click sound to beat one.

Repeate paste to as many beats as you need.

You now have a template file with an audio click track that is synced to the midi temp map. When you change the tempo it will automatically line up the clicks with the proper beats. Save that file and use it to start all your projects but be careful not to overwrite it or you will have to create another one.
