Metro 5 vs.. Cubase?

Despite several hours on the phone with Steinbeg tech support and numerous re-configurations and installations (I've also posted a topic in the Cubase user forum on this site), I still can't solve the basic problem that the sound randomly quits. I haven't given up all hope yet, but I'm pretty close to it. Does anyone else know how Metro stacks up?
Actually, I'm more concerned that it will just work. Cakewalk claims that Metro will work great with my set-up (g-4, 350 mhz, 256 mb RAM, Seasound solo soundcard), but then again, Steinberg made the same claim about Cubase.
I don't want to spend the $ and time learning Metro only to find the same problems. If I can record 8 tracks of audio and adjust the EQ and throw on a few effects, I'd be happy. Is Metro a program that is pretty stable?
