Hey Metal Militiods!!!!
This is my first post from up here in Cayuga. I'm on my old man's computer, so if it cuts out or blows up or something on me when I'm doing this, sorry in advanced.
Anywayz, this is a link to my bands stuff. My band is called Purple Helmet Death, PHD for short (I thought of that after). We play heavy thrash metal.

I play the guitar and solos and singing.
Take'r Eazy

After reading the info on your webpage, I wasn't sure what to expect.

This is good. Great musicianship.

I listened to Dead Corpse Army.

Mix-wise it's decent enough. I don't hear any bass guitar though, is there one? Vocals at bit piercing at times, mainly when you do the higher range stuff.

Talented bunch of people you got in that band.

Drums are very well played. Sound partially electric or triggered in parts, which is ok. If it's totally a drum machine I'll kill myself, and then say it sucks because it's a drum machine. :)

Where the fuck is Cayuga? I've lived in fucking Ontario all my fucking life and I've never heard of fucking Cayuga, Ontario.

Rock on man.

Thanks for the comments dude!
Cayuga is in the southern Ontario, near Caledonia. There ain't nothin to do there but keep the metal alive.
There is bass, but the bassist Throbbin' Lonnie gets all wierd when we mix and always wants it turned down, like on Justice. I said "You're no Jason Newstead, buddy, TURN IT UP!!!!"
Anyways, keep on banging!!! (your head)

Sorry duder, don't kill yourself, but...
What happened was, my old drummer was my girlfriend at the time and then she ended up going out with my FORMER badmate Bobby and so I got my NEW girlfriend to fill in, but she cant play drums so good, so we recorded her parts all separately, and then that sounded like shit so I ended up getting my buddy to program her drum part on a drum machine. I never told her it wasn't her playing, but she probly figured it out. You gotta have tight drums man, no matter how hot your chick is.

damnit, knew it was a drum machine! Drum machines suck!!!

Damn good programming though! :)

Off to the gallows.

Reiterate, damn good job either case.

Thanks dude... I'll tell my buddy he's inspired another person to head to the gallow's pole. Again.

I listened to Dream Puncher...
What can I say...Where do I start...
The vocals are mixed to up front and that is not a good thing since the vocalist cant sing...
The main guitar riff is a rip off of Iron Maidens "Hallowed Be Thy Name"... Papa Roach ripped off the same song and dare I say they did it better...
The guitar player cant play a decent solo...
I lived thru the true golden age of Heavy Metal...1980-1984
I saw them all in concert...Maiden, Priest, Kiss, Accept, Scorpions...all of those guys would totally laugh in your face at this shit!!!

Hey man, we're just trying to keep the metal spirit alive... we love all those kick ass bands too (except Accept.... they fuckin suck). I know we aren't as good as them, that's why we dont have any gigs. But we're gonna keep playing, and not let dream punchers punch our lights out.

Man, why so nasty Elvis? I lived through the 'golden' age of Heavy Metal to.

I thought Dead Corpse Army was well played. I didn't listen to Dream Puncher, but grouping everything into one statement 'they would laugh in your face', based on one song is shallow. I may be out of it all, metal isn't something I've played for a very long time (maybe the golden age) but I can tell good timing and execution when I hear it.

The guitarist is playing a few generic riffs(don't we all!!), fuck, at least there is a guitar in it instead of a bunch of sampled crap (aside from the drums). It's in time and on pitch. Two criteria that many are not capable of.

you guys sure like to punch the metronome up a couple beats:p

pretty decent for the genre, it seems. I wasn't too wild about the vocal sound, mainly because it sounded like a 16 year old voice. Maybe that's how old you guys are...and to be highly commended if so, but the voice sounded like it just needs to mature....for a lack of better words. I liked the drums on the first song...nice and spread wide....crashing cymbals and all. The 2nd song...not as much...but I really liked the intro, with the lo-fi kinda guitar sound starting off.

ok ok sorry, didnt mean to be so ruff, lord knows I cant play metal that well...I listened to a different song thats all...geez
HEY...Accept KICKED A** in their day!!!

I agree with elvis.Nothing wrong with having a dream of being a rocker but you guys have a very long way to go.

Good luck.

Next time around, name a specific song you want feedback on.

Most don't have time to listen to an entire album.

Just some meaningless advice.

Hey everybody!
Just wanted to say thanks for the comments, good and bad... "Dead Corpse Army" is for sure the best sounding song, and its also way newer, so the solos are better.
It's a long, hard road to your own personal "Master of Puppets", but it's what we choose.
Keep banging those heads!!!

Ok...
I went back and listened to Dead Corpse Army
I gotta say this one is much better, better mixing...everything sits better...sorry about that first post.
Give us some insight as to what you guys are using gear wise and what you are recording on and where.

I listened to 'Dead Corpse'

Nice guitar playing.. The cymbals are a bit too much at times... they get too dynamic and distracting.. This song reminded me of that thing that 'SUM 41' do at the end of one of there tunes.. 'pain for pleasure'

The vocalist is really pushing it.. I think a few vocal punches would help things.. (like that last scream) :D

good style, I can appreciate the metal!

"raise the fist of the metal child!"

Hey dudes
Ya, I'm really trying to strain my voice to get that metal yell, maybe a few more years of smokes will do the trick!
For guitar, I use an Ibanez 540 Sabre. Libby (the old bassist) used this shitty hollow body bass with a busted tuning peg, but Lonnie (the new bassist) uses a 3/4 scale Memphis bass. For drums, it's whatever my buddy Whipper has kicking around, I think it's a Boss doctors rhythm?
On "dead corpse army" we used my new Korg D8 and did everything direct input. All the old stuff is on 4-track, all direct input as well. Someday I wanna get a kick-ass amp and use that, but for now I get way more wicked sounds from the Korg distortion presets.
Thanks for the interest, taker eazy!

So the axes were tracked with the units internal effects??
The rhythm guits are a little fuzzy at times but sound good for internal effects. I hate the internal effects on my Roland 880EX so I had to get myself a POD to work with. The leads sound good and the vocal was cool. Man, it reminded me of 1985 all over again. I used to like to buy all kinds of obscure metal that no one had ever heard of. I remember when i got the first Metallica album back in '83 I didnt even know that they were American. I had never heard of them but I thought...with a name like that its GOT to be good...the rest is history!!

On Dream Puncher...

Decent song, except I did care too much for the chorus. It seemd there was a buildup to it, but then when it hit, the song seemd to slow down. The guitar hook was good.

I thought the instruments, especially the bass, had a thin and weak sound. Nothing but midrange to them (ok a bit of an overstatement). The guitar solos weren't all that well played in my opinion.

The vocals had some pitch issues here and there. I don't know if it was caused by delay or double tracking, but there were some synching issues to them.

What's a dream puncher?

On Dead Corpse...

Better song. I sort of liked it. More B-52's than metal, I'd say. 'cept the guitar leads. :)

Still a "thin" guitar sound.

Tried to download "Journey of ???" but it crashed my browser. Don't know what's up with that.
