if you listen loud enough you can blow out your ears then it doesn't sound so bad. i gave it a little burn in period, and my initial evaluation (this album sucks) was wrong...it actually blows harder than hurricane andrew.

I too was skeptical.....

I noticed right away after hearing St. Anger on the radio that the production sounded horrible. I later read a review that ripped it to shreds. I didn't want to like this record. I haven't bought a new Metallica disc or seen them in concert since the Black album, anything after that just doesn't do anything for me. then I caught that live DVD at a buddy's house, and thought whoa...this is heavy! Very Sabbathy/stoner rock sounding. Still some goofy parts, but all in all I'me a liitle excited to like Metallica again. I jsut wished their tour wasn't going to be so shitty. With the style of St. Anger, they should take out Black Label Society, Clutch, And High On Fire!

Sitting through a few shit bands will be worth seeing Metallica AT THIER PRIME!!!!! Well their second prime, yeah....urr The sets they are compiling are like heavier than shit...can't wait.

If this wasnt Metallica, some new band instead, you guys would be splitting neurons over it.

If this wasn't Metallica, this album would never have been recorded.

I honestly like the sound better than the "Load of Crap" sound. Sort of like how Motorhead might sound if their classic stuff was recorded today. The sound, not the mix (balance of drums to everything) or musicianship.

But the songs are sooooo cheesey. "Shoot me again". For one example.

I mean they make Weird Al's Emenem parodies sound hardcore.

They are washed up and spoiled.

If I'm going to listen to something hardcore and sloppy, I'd rather listen to something interesting/funny--like early Gwar, or intelligent--Bad Brains, etc.... Heavy--Ministry, Emperor, Motorhead. Rawk--Guitar Wolf.

Metallica has caught whatever McCartney caught. It must be the perpetual suck flu.

The new Jane's addiction song I heard. Now that was cool.

It's even easier to take Maryln Manson more seriously than Metallica.

What does that say????????????

What I don't like much about the album is the "nu metal"ish sound. Eh.

It would have sounded better if they had gone the whole "nu-metal" hog and used PODs for the guitars, it would have been a lot cleaner.

if they wanted a raw sound they should have went for a sound like the sound they got on the 5.98 ep. now that sounds great to me!

You think this album sounds nu-metal???? You;re kidding?
This album sounds nothing like nu-metal to me.
And if you dont hear that huge fat tone coming through from those mega awesome Deizel amps then you need to get your hearing checked. Yes, it sounds weird, and the snare sounds weird, but I hear even good tone in that. There is nothing but good tones on the album, just mixed strangely.
Once again, some of you arent listening. Just my opinion.

on further inspection, the guitars do sound pretty cool. the drums sound sucky. the mix is crap. and the songs blow. but i'll give them credit for cool sounding guitars.

Good things about St. Anger

1. No Kirk-solos (His only good solo ever is in Shortest Straw)
2. Some of the guitar tones
3. Jason isn't with these morons anymore

Too many bad things to list... but
1. Wtf is with the mix.. levels are ALL fucked up
2. James never could sing.. but 'back in the days' he at least didn't try.
3. Songwriting is SOOOOO weak...
4. Lars Ulrich

Verdict: Fuck 'em

Now Slayer and Testament only get better and better...

I don't agree with you on Slayer getting better, I'm much bigger on their old stuff.

Mwah, Slayer.

I always forget something damnit!

My pal burned St. Anger for me (get over it) and I must say, I really don't like it much. I'm a HUGE Metallica fan too. The snare stuck out especially, gah yuck. Oh well.

"Jump in the FI-YAH!"
