I just saw "Metallica: Some Kind of Monster" the other day. It was very funny. And forgive me if this is common Metallica fan knowledge (I'm certainly not a fan), but is Kirk Hammet gay? He comes off prissy as hell in that movie.

people swear to me that that movie wasn't staged, but i just can't believe that that band is really the way the movie makes them look. to me it seems like if they were, they wouldn't have let it be known. i only saw a small portion of the movie, but holy crap it was ridiculous.

i dunno if he's gay.

I think everybody in Metallica became gay after "Justice".

I've always thought Kirk was a fag.
His nails are always way too well manicured.

Have always loved his chops though. :)

Good call, I had the same impression (haven't even thought of metallica since and justice for all) I recently saw the movie too.

He seems gay and very childlike for a man of his age and wealth, but he's the only one that doesn't come off as a spoiled megastar. The small segment with Lars' father gives an inkling of why Lars himself is the way he is. If any of the movie is "real", then james is just as dissapointing as Lars.

The 24 hour psychologist guy takes the cake as the saddest thing I've ever seen.

The studio scenes of the band rehersing and jamming are cool though.

Wait a minute...

Mr. George,

Are you saying Kurt has had too many visitors in his "Manhole"?

Dear Famous Beagle:

Despite your malevolent observations, Mrs., I mean Mr. Hammett is not homosexual or prissy. Many of long-tenured guitar players have developed a slight limp in the wrist after several grueling years of finger picking and tapping. And the dainty yet frail gait does not stem from years of rectal abuse. Instead, it arises from decades of donning, wearing and removing tight, leather rock star pants. Should you detect a slight lisp in Mr. Hammett's soprano-esque speech, it is only a direct result of being tongue-shocked from ungrounded microphones.

We here at Manhole Music appreciate your endeavor to show an undiscovered side of Mr. Hammett, but we feel that he has already shown that side to many of adoring music lovers, especially those of a male persuasion.

Thank you,

Boy George, Esq.

First Deepthroat comes out of the closet and now this...

Kurt, Kirk or Curt?

Which one is being referred to here? This is in reference to Curt Hammett, lead guitarist for the band "Reach Around" out of Topeka, Kansas.

Any similarities between persons, living or dead, gay or straight, is purely coincidental.

I think Kirk Hammett has just spent too much time in San Francisco and picked up the "accent." He's been married a few times to females, so he's either straight or bisexual.

Who cares? Kirk can suck all the co*k he wants. He's still the lead guitar player of the biggest, most influencial metal band of all time. Too bad they they are more country rock now than metal. But he might be. I would not be suprised.

I think they are EXACTLY the way that movie portrays them. All these years of living that life, pissing each other off, and being coddled by eveyone who knows them? Shit. I'm suprised they are as well adjusted asd they are.

I totally believe that if they just TRIED...just a LITTLE... they could still make some incerdibly sick and brutal metal. I hope they find that fire again. I've been holding out hope for them ever since Justice.... They were RIGHT THERE.....on the brink of something mind blowing and beautiful.....and then something happened. The black album came out and then...well.....we all know the rest. :(

IMO, Metallica is the worst thing that ever happened to guitar tone. I know they didn't invent it, but they certainly did more to popularize the "scooped mids" sound than anyone, which is, without a doubt, the most sorry excuse for a guitar tone ever.

Fuck that. The tone on And Justice For All was awesome for the time. I use far more mids in my sound than they did then... but their sound was fucking great.

To each his own I guess. It's weak and boring to me.

it's very simple, metallica used to be awesome but now they are sissyrockers with the right attitude coach.
i don't know and don't care if the're gay or not.
but they do have become a bunch of wankers.

Speak before you talk

Regardless of sexual preference, isn't it time we got behind our fellow musicians and stayed there until this chaotic climax was over? It's time guitarists reach around and grab this growing epidemic with both hands and shake this issue up until it has nothing left to give. Then can we finally wash our hands of it.

I, too, think Kurt Hammond is an accomplished guitarist, but that doesn't mean that no others are not entitled to their own opinion, don't it?

Eh...yeah. To each his own. To me, the Iron Maiden guitar sound sucks ass. So does Judas Priest. While those two bands ARE technically "metal", they are certainly closer to "glam rock" I think. IM and JP sound weak and boring to me.....but no one will will an argument like that. Everyone with a mullet will come out of hiding to support them....

And if scooped mids is "the most sorry excuse for guitar tone ever" what is a great tone? I'll admit scooping mids like that is dated and not the best thing to do, but really - what do you like to hear??

I personally like to hear more bite and "life" in guitar tone. The thing about that scooped mids sound is that it's so easily imitated, and even on not such great equipment. Besides the fact that it pretty much sounds the same at every volume. After Metallica hit it big, you could look into every guitar player's rig and see that scooped mids setting and know exactly the sound that was going to come out of their amp. To me, that sound is similar to the takamie plugged in sound that was so popular when it first came out. It's so easy to get, but it really sounds like it too.

Some of my favorite rhythm tones would have to be Rich Robinson (Black Crowes), and ... well ... I was getting read to name some others that I like, but it's just apples and oranges. I'm not a metal guy at all, and I'm guessing you are. So ... I guess we should agree to disagree.

Get thee behind me, Satan!

I thought we were finally going to fill this dark hole of homosexuality with the creamy white truth! And now, famous bagel (I personally like cinnamon raisin and apple wheat) erects the connotation of apples and oranges. Please, can't we just stop talking about fruits?!?

Take pride and go march for all the little Kent Hammocks all over the world!
