I think the tone on No. 2 is better... more realistic and has more character sonically. What'd you mic it with and where?

At the risk of asking a stupid question...what is a rumble?

If you are a guitar player (or perhaps a kazoo or triangle player) and want to lay down a lead track over the given backing track - just download it and go to town. Repost it here and let everybody check out your ideas....lots of fun for everyone and thinly disguised as some sort of a competition (not really). I just recently picked up on this thing and decided to post a backing track 'cause it seemed like even more fun to me to see what everyone would play over some of my music. By the way, can't wait so hear more submissions!

I have an old Carvin SX-200, 2X12. Stuck a Shure SM-58 about 1" from one speaker, and run that into my M-Audio pre, into the soundcard. Delta-44. Used my POD as the stompbox. Didn't have to turn it up very loud, as I did with the old DOD pedal.

Thanks, Tim.

What key is this diddy in? (My guitars are tuned to b.)

Cm - The driving rhythm is: C5(G) - G#5(D#) - A#5(F) - C5(G). I tune down one whole step so I can play some open strings and things on the D (actually C) string (the little minor chord partials in the background). The breakdown and outro section is: C5(G)-A#5(F)-C5(G) then D#5(A#)-D5(A)-A#5(F). (These are all just inverted power chords). Have fun!

I like the direction alot. Very cool, and fits. Tone is good. Lots of different notes. (unlike mine). Very cool. You are the shreddist. More please.

Maybe it's a beginning-of-summer-turbulent-change thing that's got everybody tied up. I had planned to do one but just haven't been able to get to it, and I'm always one of the slowest to respond.

Oh yeah, I know how hard it is...for pete's sake I still haven't had time to record a go at the rumble number 3!....suppose I should shut my trap..haha.
I Do look forward to more posts though - happy jamming!.....as soon as you get the time! ;)

Sorry i wont beable to get my post up in time... my trusty randall decided to give out! it wouldnt flow as good with out it hopefully i can get it back and recorded by friday night!

Straight away noticed it wasnt recorded properly. First thing that stuck out was the cymbals!! I aint into these types of recordings if you can call them real recordings.
But the guitar tone is nice. Good work on that one. Could probably get away with that tone if the drums were real.

ecktronic, one of the arrangement aspects of the 4 Rumbles so far has been a slight tongue-in-cheek approach to the simplicity of the backing track - especially the first one. In fact, the reason for it was pretty smart because it helps keep us guitarists (and some other instrumentalists), who tend to be by nature hyper-competitive and hyper-sensitive, more able to enjoy playing outside of our normal box (for me anyway) and hear each other with a more relaxed approach.

Many of the solos also, tend to be oriented towards edit-free, first take improvisations, which is a good thing IMO. And in those I don't mind the unplanned pitches or rhythmic stutters when someone's winding up for the next musical idea. It's like having them sitting in the room here really playing. I'm not secure enough myself to let anyone hear my unplanned sounds and tend to edit the hell out of my stuff, not as good a thing IMO.

But it all makes for some unusual arrangement combinations that probably aren't at all like most music, and that's what I like about it.

Hey dude, sorry if you aren't thoroughly impressed with the recording, all I can say is that the recording quality really wasn't the point here, and I'm fully aware that it is a little cheesy. Besides, this thing was never meant to be any more than a track for me to practice leads to for my old band about 2 years ago! I definitely had no capacity to record real drums at that time, nor did it ever occur to me that it would be shared with all you fine folks on this board! Anyways - if you can get past the "fake" sound of it....maybe you can lay down a lead with your new PRS McCarty Soapbar! (wonder how I knew that.... )

P.S. ....not sure what you mean by "real" recording.....I'm pretty sure it is real 'cause when I hit the play button, I can hear sounds and shit coming out of the speakers! :D

Any time i listen to an MP3 i instantly evaluate the quality of recording/mixing rather than evaluate the music (unless specifically asked). I do this because it is a homerecording forum. Sorry if im taking things a bit serious with some folk, just trying to help them get better quality recordings.

Chill man. Sorry to offend you, miss read that it was "just a bit of fun", but this is called the "MP3 Mixing Clinic", so im used to listening to a track and commenting on the quality of mix.
