The drums were miked with one overhead and one near the kick, so they could be better, but theres not too much I can do there...

Let me know. By the way, this is my FIRST POST EVER! YES.

Welcome to hr.com! Simply put, I liked everything about this song. I think the performances were all tight, the arrangement complex and interesting, the mix well done. I think the drums sounded pretty darn good for just having two mikes on them, but then, the playing was really good so it translated well (i.e. a good performance lends itself to good results). :D

Cool I really like it. I think though that you should either turn down the cymbals a bit (via eq or whatever you prefer), or place your overhead mic differently next time (a little closer to the snare maybe to pick up more snare and less cymbal). Also, I think that guitar could be cleaned up a little. I'm not hearing enough distinction which could be one of several things:

1) Too much low-mids. You can take care of this with eq easily. Play around.
2) Mic setup. Stick that sm57 right up to the grill cloth and play with on-axis and off-axis positions until you get a sweet sound. Also try placing a far-mic of your choice and mixing the two signals.
3) You're letting a pedal or other processor generate the distortion. I'm not dissing pedals by any means, but you have to be careful with them when recording.

You could also stand to push the low bass signals on the guitar up a little since this is a sort of song where the guitars are more percussive. I really like this song though, and you got a damn fine sound to start with. Oh, and welcome to the boards mate!

o.o......simply put...... wow....... good job on this..... and that drummer is good.

the gang vocals in the beginning are really weak, which wouldn't be your fault unless you were a part of them. but seriously, they sound totally out of place and weak. don't you have like 90 friends that can help out with that? your kick has too much midrange in it and the overhead is compressed waaaaay too much. the snare drum almost sounds like its a 64kbps mp3 because of the compression.
the vocals aren't bad and the guitars fit the mix nicely!

Thanks a lot for the suggestions guys. This is my first time trying to record a band, so Im glad I am on the right track. I did (what I think is) some major fixing of the drums, I took the advice about the overhead compression, and it sounds WAY better. thanks. I dont know how it got so extreme, I didnt even notice.

Thanks a lot!
