Hello all,

its been a while since i've posted any songs here. Whenever he is in town, my buddy and I have been working on putting together an album . I've got a few songs tracked but have been struggling to produce a suitable mix. Its instrumental at the moment. Im on guitar/bass and my friend provided the drums.

http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/album.php?aid=3299&alid=-1

The song is at the bottom "Burying Your Dead"

Any thoughts or general comments/mix advice is appreciated.

From a mixing standpoint, this sounds much better than the last version I listened to at RP. I don't hear anything that needs changing. Nice work.

Scrubs thanks for the listen. I didn't post over there this time because I know everyone is sick of me over analyzing/tweaking my work hahaha. I totally retracked the rhythms on this one in an attempt to get a more agressive rhythm section. I think it worked but the jury is still out.....thanks again

i really liek this music. Your drums sound very powerful and the guitar playing is inventive and fresh. the tone is solid. i think the lead bits are a little too quiet sometimes. excellent drummer. theres something funny going on at teh start in the guitar that i cant quite figure out. i think its a timing issue. there are a few minor timing issues throughout. a bit of speeding up and slowing down. overall im very very impressed im just nitpicking.

Elementary- thanks for the listen/comments.

I agree. We don't ever really get to practice these songs and we've only played together about 10 times now. We normally just learn a song in an hour or two and then record it right then and there. Not exactly the best way to work but when you live 5 hours apart thats about the only way you can work.

Thanks again for the listen

What equipment do you use. It sounds good

All of the tracking was done through my Soundtracs Solo 24 channel mixer into Alesis Alesis Adats. I mix everything with that setup as well (outboard compressors/gates etc...).

Not exactly sure if you wanted info on just recording gear or what so here is a quick list from what I can remember. Drums are Yamaha Maple customs with a yamaha Steve Gadd signature snare. Mostly a custom and k custom cymbals. The guitars were a Vintage 79 les paul custom and a newer standard les paul. The rhythm tones are from my Mesa nomad 45 into a marshall jcm 4x12 cab. Leads were a combo of the mesa as well as my Marshall bichorus 200 head. The bass is a washburn active 5 string (model number escapes me right now) through a Line 6 Bass pod.

Hope this helps. If you want anymore specifics just ask and Thanks for the listen.

I remember your older versions of this mix. You guys have a great sound; it reminds me of Opeth's "Damnation". My only criticism is that the mix lacks the power you hear in metal recordings. If this mix went through an entire mastering phase, it would sound like something I regularly listen to.

FattMusiek- thanks for the listen/comments. Your right, there have been at least 2 other versions of this song. Opeth is a major influence for me and im not surprised you caught that. My arms your Hearse and Still Life are masterpieces IMHO and Damnation isn't a bad album by any means.

The recording kinda reminds me of older Metallica stuff.

I think the guitars could be a bit louder. I think it would be a lot cooler sounding more "in your face".

Good job on the riffage. Some goood shit in there.

Would have been nice to hear a vocal on it. Interesting arrangement, but I agree the guitars need to be a bit more in your face.
BTW, I listened to the Jingle bells thing too... that was cool.

D/L' ing it now. Could be a while... dial up...

Bury 57? Surely you didn't break down and use a 57 on guitars

It seems a little faster than the previous version I heard...

Want some vocals? lol, just kiddin' :D :p
Good stuff as always...

Well its put together alright the double bass in the intro kicked ass brings that shit together! I got exited. Then ugh that stopped and some crazy clicky shit. I'd like to hear this when you guys have more time to jam and tightin it up. Another thing is that fade just before the strumming half way through. I can't put my finger on it but something needs to change. Maybe give it a quick fade or cross it. Or did you come down on your bend with the fade? I like the way you incorped the spainish/classical it was tight.

if I had heard this when I was 15 I would have imagined you to be a god.

I had so many mixes going that I had to name it something to remember which one it was. This particular version has a 57 for some of the leads so thats why I chose to label it that. Thanks for the listen DWeller.....

livilaNic-thanks for the listen

Not really sure what you mean by that. How old are you now?

sorry for not being clear. I was into metal alot as a kid, I'm 27 now. I still like hearing that style of guitar. That's the kind of thing I wanted to do back then but did'nt have the talent. Awesome stuff man.

Livilanic- sorry i overlooked your first post on accident. Im not really sure which part your referring to. If your talking about the solo that leads into the acoustic section, then its just the note being bent over that part. Theres no fade that im aware of in that section.
Thanks for the listen.

ecktronic-thanks for the listen. What exactly dont you like about the kick?

Travisnflorida-thanks for the clarification.
