Hi...

I just recorded this song, and haven't really "polished" it yet. There is still some small unwanted guitarnoise here and there, but for now I think it's OK. It still needs the vocals and the guitarsolo, but let me know what you think...

Dime...

P.S. Is it just me, or are the drums a bit distant-sounding??? What to do??

good metal man....
as far as the canned drums go....they could use some warmth on the skins and the high hat...toms however sound pretty cool...
needs kick for sure...I don't loike the snare sound man....sort of like popping bubble wrap...

could use some more bass too...

yeah man...good guit trone and excellent playing...

very cool,
Joe

Metal Folks

Hell motherfuckin yeah! Another metal posting dude! I will download this after i do some stuff. Can't go wrong with Dimebag as a screen name!!!!!!!!! Get to you later... and keep posting.

good riffs.. the whole thing sounds like it needs some bass and the drums themselves sound too high pitched and too compressed.. needs a lower bass drum, and that snare doesn't cut it imhop.. (and joro's)

the only low end is the chunk/woof of the guitars.. the drums sound very sterile..

great riffs, and it could be a great tune with vocals and better drums..

ill echo

analytical man's comments, glad to see another metal poster on the board. Some of the riffs are pretty cool, definantly lose the drum machine or get some different samples. The drum sounds make me feel like a rapper is going to come in any minute lol. Judgement night 2?
Welcome to the board and keep bringing the metal.

If possible change the snare to something a little darker and meaner sounding and loose some of the verb on the kit. Your drum playing/programing is very impressive!

The guitars sound wicked! I love the slow driving pulse of the tune. It leaves a lot of space for a killer vocal. Hopefully, you have some demonic talent and words to add to this tune. I think something ala Rob Zombie style there could work in it. Do you have any words written yet?

Nice work so far!

Keep posting.

Cheers! :)

Thanks, for all your comments.

I agree, the drums sounds "off" for this kind of music, but I haven't got the possibilty to record our drummer at this time. We need to find ourselves a new room with a decent sound, and get ourselves some mics to do the recording... so for now it's the zoom.... but, I have been doing my homework, so the zoom IS recorded while synchronized via Midi, so I can change the drumset used on the zoom and just re-record the drums... as a matter of fact, the drums currently on the song have been recorded last....

@Sabbath : There IS actually some bass in there... I lowered its volume quite a bit, because the song would become "boomy", but maybe I should re-record it, using a more defined/attack-heavy sound???

@Ghost : Yeah, the lyrics are written, and our singer is ready to put down the vocals... It may not be what people expect, though... Our singer sounds something like a crossing between Phil Anselmo, the guy from American Head Charge and that kind of thing... Sounds really cool... but again, I can't record him before we get ourselves a decent room... The band is somewhat "on hold" right now, beceause of our financial situations (sucks) so basically it's just me trying to put our songs down for now, and doing this while two kids are running around... :-)

Thanks again for all your comments...

METAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey i got a chance to listen now. I really like the tune. I would say it is screaming for a Phil Anselmo vocal delivery. Everything else has been covered about drum sounds and all of that so i won't comment on that. When you get the vox on it, and you have the solo as well make sure you repost here. I am curious to hear the end result. Later

Funny, this reminds me SO much of the stuff I recorded when I first started years ago -- which is a good thing. I'll have to dig out my Pantera CDs and reminisce.

The drum issue: I'm not quite as down on the drum sound as some. You have some really nice hi-hat work in there and nice drum work in general. And for what you have to work with, you've done really well. Still, I would agree that different samples would be an improvement.

The bass issue: The bass does need to come up in the mix. I don't think it's volume that's making it "boomy," I think it's the actual bass sound. I'm not sure if you're putting that "boom" bass drum throughout the song or if you just have a really fat, echo-y bass guitar sound, but there's definitely something "boomy" in there. That's probably not much help, but I think a tighter overall bass sound with more volume and punch would add to the song -- as opposed to the ethereal, in-the-background bass sound you have going on right now. This is a gut-puncher, in the vein of Pantera, of course, given your handle, and the bass should reflect that. Just a thought.

Anyway, I'll also echo the sentiment that it's nice to have a metal poster here. Don't get to hear much of that. I cut my teeth on this shit, and because it's somewhat out of style at the moment, I don't hear a lot of new stuff. Thanks for posting!

By the way, if you've never listened to Meshuggah, that might be up your alley. They have the best drummer to ever live (IMO) -- with Tool's drummer a close second -- EXTREMELY complex arrangements (bordering on "math rock"), and a VERY HEAVY sound. New Millennium Cyanide Christ will have you at your guitar instantly, trying to figure out the insanely complex guitar riff timing. :-) I really think they're the best at this kind of music. Just a friendly suggestion!

Nice guitar tone and nice pick squeels. Drums do sound a bit canny. What samples are you using/what program/machine? Cool song, Dimebag.

Thanks again for all the comments.

I used a Zoom RT123 for both the drums and the bass. This thing was synchronized via MIDI so it's not a problem to change either of the tracks... I have started trying different drumsets/bass-sounds out, and will post a new mix soon.

Regarding Meshuggah : I know them, and love them!!!! It's by far the best metal out there right now. Even though a lot of people don't like the new one, Nothing, I must admit I love that album... And New Millenium Cyanide Christ : Have you seen the video??? Funniest video I've ever seen. It's all the guys in their tour-bus, with no instruments, playing the song. Like playing air-guitars, and the drummer playing air-drums only using two toothbrushes, I think... and they're all in complete sync. It's amazingly funny... :-)
I even read somewhere that the drummer supposedly was in some kind of scientific experiments, where they tried to put all kinds of gear on his head while playing, and they came to the conclusion that he is quite unique, in the sense that when playing something with his left foot, for example, none of his hands or the other foot react at all. It seems his brain is capable of controlling these four elements totally independantly... That's weird....

Nice riffs man, and the song is well constructed. Apart from the snare which is a bit thin, I quite liked the drums sound, and the bass drum in particular although it could be a bit louder.

One option you've got to lift the bass guitar is to put some distortion on it. This can help it cut through better without becoming boomy or muddy. Good job so far, look forward to hearing it with vocals

Sounded real nice Dimebag.

So, you used the 123. Did you record on your Korg 1200?

Yup, recorded and everything on the D1200. Actually, ONLY the D1200, the Zoom 123, and a guitar.... and a cable.... Copied the mixdown to the PC, compressed with Lame 3.92, and upped to Songramp...
Nothing weird in between... ;-)
