... at practice last night....we had never tried it as a band, I had messed around with it on my own and had a patch for the tuning on my variax so after a few beers , we gave it a shot at the end of practice...thought some of you might get a chuckle out of this....pretty tough one for 3 guys, no keys, bass pedals, or talent..:p

Hey Queep,

Not an easy tune to pull off. For a live recording, it's got an "outdoor show" kind of vibe to it, which is cool. The drums need to come way up. Guitar sounds great. One of my favorite Zeppelin tunes.

Thanks Rami, yeah...this one kicked the drummers ass...he was pretty whipped from practicing all night and we had never really tried this one before...think it may be worth working on...tough one for the singer/bassist as well though...

Nothing against the performance, you guys are real tight, Queep. I like what you did with one of the greatest classics. Oh boy, does this bring memories..... Recording is what it is, live in the rehearsal room with probably one mic....so, bootleg quality.;) Great version!

Joey :):):):)

Sounds good for a live performance with no overdubs, actually probably about as good as some of Zepplin's live stuff I have heard. Good stuff Queepy!:)

It was such a long time between Houses & Physical but this song made it worth the wait.
I still have the vinyl!!!
Given the circumstances as described by you this is fantastic.
You should def. work it up for your set.
Welld one to the boys - the drummer does sound tired - are those stick hits a sign of faitgue?

Wow...really very good for 3 guys live with no overdubs :D!

The main guitar riff (along with the drums, the heart of this tune) sound awesome. You picked just the right tone for that. Some of the other little riffs sound like they'd benefit from a different, mellower distortion if you could change on the fly. Drums sound awesome other than the persistent clicks clacks.

You guys really have the basic framework for this one down. I hope you keep playing it and flesh it out a little more. Very cool :D.

Exactly my first thought.

Thanks for all the replies, big sports weekend here in Detroit, so have been a bit distracted:p..(Uof M vs. MSU/LIons Football, the amazing collapse of the Detroit Tigers baseball team...Red Wings hockey season opener in Sweden..)

Thanks Joey....I think the key for this song are the little fills/riffs that are thru out this song, very challenging for me to try and squeeze them in with out losing the main hypnotic kinda riff....there is so much on the original...strings, mellotron, multiple guitars etc, its tough to pull off....Videos I have seen of Zep doing this live ,shows JPJ playings key's rather then bass guitar, which seemes to fill out the sound live....I love live raw warts and all recordings that have great energy/vibe to 'em...would take that over a sterile, clean overdubbed "live" album anyday!

Thanks Anfontan! I love Zeppelin, have heard many bootlegs, and they are all over the board performance wise...some of those 70 -72 shows are incredible...when they were on they were amazing!

Yeah, Houses Of The Holy is may fav Zep....Physical has some real great tunes, but it also had a feel of the tank starting to run low. Yeah, our drummer was pretty worn out from work that day, and we are adding a bunch of new tunes to the set.....so he was kinda crashing at the end of practice when I started messing with this.....I think we will definetly keep cracking on this one.....could be a pretty suprising tune to pull out in the right gig:p

My thoughts exactly - I've noticed that a lot on your recordings, big sound - like Rush does....
Great job on a classic tune!

Thanks heatmiser, that's a great compliment for me as that is my fav' type of bands...the "power trio" type format.....which I consider bands like The Who, and Zeppelin.....we have actually added Limelight as well which is really tough(for me)...Thanks for listening!

Greg_L Nice job queepo!

Thanks Greg!!!
