Mesa Head Settings

Got a mesa/boogie dual rectifier, and I want a good, punchy and yet midrangey sound for recording purposes. I'm in a band that sounds similar to Maylene and the Sons of Disaster, but with more melody and lead lines involved. We need a guitar tone that is going to allow clarity in chording as well as lead lines, while not "muddying" up the recording. Does anyone have any suggestions for mic placement and head settings for this situation?

I can't help with THAT amp,but I have a clip of my MKIIC+ combo. It might be the tone your looking for,but I don't know if you can dial it in with your amp. Here's the link, and it's the 1st clip on the page.

I'm not able to listen to the clip you sent at this time...I'm at work, and the next available time I can listen to anything is a good while from now...If you think the sound in the clip you sent is anything anywhere near close to what I was trying to describe, please explain how you got it. I know the amp settings won't be the same persay, but maybe I can try to get it close...and what mic placement did you use, and how many mics? And what kind of room did you record in? Sucks I can't listen to the clip you sent, so I could know a little bit more about what you're talking about. But thanks for helping.

Don't use so much gain. Try it. Double up some guitar parts. You might be surprised at what you come up with.

As far as mic position, that something you're going to have to experiment with because it depends on the mic and the room quite a bit. If you want a bright and present sound, stick the mic closer to the grill and point it at the cone more.
