Hi Im just now wanting to get into the sound of Mesa amps..i know alot of popular bands plays mesa and so far i like their sound and i heard Mesa is probablly the best tube amps around....does anyone know where i can get some sound samples of the differnt kinds of Mesa amps to play on windows media player.... or can someone record some samples for me? Im planning on buying a Mesa Boogie this summer and i like to hear my chocies..i checked at the loacal music store and guitar center and they dont have any in stock right now:( any samples would be a big help! thanks!!!

Contrary to popular belief, Mesa makes a wide range of amps with varying sounds. A lot of people on this board associate Mesa with the "nu-metal" sound that people get with the rectifier series. If that's the sound you're looking for, then you want to look at the dual and triple recs.

There are a lot of other Mesa amps, and some are quite versatile. I don't have any recordings of my DC-3 online right now, but it's a great sounding combo that can go from creamy blues to high-gain lead sounds easily.

Keep in mind that a lot of the same bands get their rectifiers modded. Out of the box, I thought my rectifier didn't sound all that fantastic. I got it modded by Trace and Voodoo Amps, and it was a world of difference. I would highly suggest checking out the Peavey Triple XXX, probably one of the best amps I've heard right out of the box, very versatile.

i wanna get a metal guitar sound with the Mesa....any suggestions? i was looking at Marshalls any Marshalls that would come pretty damn close to Mesa the rectified? if i can save a few hunderd bucks let me know :D

if you want a metal sound, consider getting a tube mesa amp( 20/20, 50/50) and then finding a preamp to match it. I heard that the mesa quad is monster. The rocktron voodu valve preamp is another possibility (sound samples at http://www.rocktron.com/products/vooduol.html ), and maybe an ada mp-1 (www.voodooamps.com) for samples. Or even a used marshall jmp-1 for around $400 http://acapella.harmony-central.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=872013&highlight=duel

as long as you are using a good tube amp, you should be able to find any number of preamps that will do metal.

If you're gonna go with a Mesa at all, I'd suggest considering a used Mark III or IV in good condition. These can do almost anything, and I'm suprised that they don't cook meals and wash up. I have a 50 Caliber plus which is very similar to a Mark III but with less overall power and limited controls (other than the excellent built-in 5 band EQ).

About the Marshalls, do go into a store and play around with a Marshall DSL or something, because you might find that you can get a metal sound you'll love for less than a brand new Boogie.

I use a Mesa Nomad 55...
you can hear samples at my webpage if you like...
It is one of the more dynamic combo series of Mesa's...
I get a real good clean tone for my Taylor and a crunch you wouldn't believe for my Les Paul...

I'll never need another amp....ya know?

ok, i've got a new album, just released on Planet Records..

on my artist page (follow link below) are 40 second snippets of all the songs....

all mesa boogie.

1981 mark2b 60 watt head....
there are 10 songs... 2 are acoustic...so 8 boogie tunes...

I use a Mesa Boogie -Strategy 500, 200/200 all tupe power amp (discontinued unfortunatley) into a pair of Marshall JCM 900. I used to us a Marshall 100/100 tupe amp, but it just didn't do it for me, so I tried the Mesa.......12 years now and going strong. The Mesa amp gave me more clarity and less break up high volumes. And running them thru the JCM900's allows the sound to cut thru better than with the Meas cabs. (IMO). :D

Uhhhhh...the JCM 900 is an amp, not a cabinet. I assume you meant Marshall cabs, like 1960's or whatever.

Ahhh, unless you are using the JCM900's preamp section, and then into the Mesa amp, then to some cabs.

My bad, I was speaking of the 1960's........or what ever. :p

Well in his defense it does say jcm900 1960a on the tag on front.
