Hi,

Last week I recorded nine carols with MSH-1Os on my Jecklin disc. I call the cd "The Gift".

"Joy To The World" rocks!

You can hear all of them here.

I also recorded video of the sessions so I may have a DVD of "The Gift" in the future.

Enjoy.

Thanks,

Hairy Larry

I had to open it in a wave editor to play it. What encoder did you use?

I listened to Joy to the World. Sounds good, even on speakers.

I've been wanting to make a jecklin disk/binaural set for awhile now but my budget hasn't allowed it. :(

Works for me. Guitar sounds good\

Whats a jecklin disc?

Same here. Media player said something about the ID3 tag being compressed.

lame VBR mp3

Hi,

I used lame to produce the VBR mp3 files. CD quality mp3s that only use as much bandwidth as they need to maintain quality. They play fine in my winamp and real player. My media player doesn't play them either. (8.00.00.4487 version) It did however play in my Amarok player under Suse Linux 10.

If your player won't play the VBR files click on over to archive.org on the link above and try the ogg or the lofi mp3 or the flash streaming.

Thanks on the nice comments from those who could hear it.

Merry Christmas,

Jecklin Disc

Hi,

A Jecklin Disc is a way of making stereo recordings similar to binaural recordings (where they put the mics in the ears of a dummy head) except instead of a head you use a sound absorbing 12 inch diameter disc.

Here's the article I used to build mine.

http://www.josephson.com/tn5.html

It's not expensive to build one. I did go out $35 for 1 inch acoustic fiberglass but that bought me 40 square feet and it only took two square feet for the disc. So I use the rest for GoBo and room treatment.

Instead of the Owens Corning I used the Knauf product which was available locally at HVAC, a national chain.

I plan on writing an article about building one when I get a round tuit.

Thanks,

Hairy Larry

I built my Jecklin out of fiberglass insulation + a 12" embroidery hoop, with acoustic fabric around the fiberglass disc. It looks kinda arts and crafts, but it works :o

I used these hoops, much better quality than your average wood hoop, and I sacrificed a mic clip to mount the hoop to a stand--I removed the screw and threaded it in the hoop's bolt.

I'm almost done with my little recording room project, and plan on giving the MS mics I bought a couple of months back a good run for the money. I'm particularly anxious how they will sound on my Taylor, which is really why I bought them (acoustic guitar). The room should be sounding good once it is done, so it should be a good chance for the mics to spread their wings.
