what do you guys think of the mix? this is our first time engineering our own stuff... we applied a quick Isotope mastering to it, but will use a good mastering guy for the final product.

feedback?

anybody have any feedback on the mix? if nobody replies I'm going to have to assume that we have achieved perfection- that to try and put the sheer audial excellence into words would be unthinkable.

...please don't let my rockstar ego get the better of me

good!

I think the balance between instruments is very good. The chorus is nice and tight. I like the dynamic/sonic changes.

To me the hi-hats are a little too tinny sounding and the snare sound a bit hollow, but maybe that's the effect you were going for. This isn't a genre I listen too much, but I have pretty good ears, and I listen to a wide variety of music.

Interesting idea for a song. Overall good job.

Keep in mind that I am a songwriter/drummer, not a sound engineer, so take my feedback with a grain of salt.

Rock on!

kesterdevine

thanks for the feedback. yeah, the drums could be better. i think we didn't have them mic'd as well as they should have been..

anyway, thanks again!

Hey,

Not bad!

Feel like it needs a deeper low end. More guts. Sounds a bit thin and hollow.

Could use limiting or compression to increase punch and tightness of sound.

The guitars could be more in your face.

Cymbals sound good. what mics?

Needs more guts in kick drum for thump.

Yiordanaki here with a few comments -

I cant stand that line " I don't think that I....blah blah " EVERYONE in young punk bands uses it and its terrible.

I like the chorus.

Pretty cool overall song - extremely well done for a first time!

cheers,

yiordanaki and Tukkis

hey, thanks for the comments.

Tukkis,

i imagine a lot of the limiting and compression will be done by the masterer.. think more bass guitar might help the low end, or just some overall eq'ing maybe?

overheads are these russian mics called "oktava"s (MK-012-01)

there was a lot of bleed through from the tom and snare mics though:

snare- Shur SM57
tom mics- AKG C418
kick- AKG D112

we had a lot of trouble with the kick drum on this tune for some reason.. there was a lot of overall rumble through the whole thing (probably due to a new head) so we had to do some drastic eq'ing- lost some power i think.

Yiordanaki

you'd probably hate one of our other songs where the chorus goes "I don't wanna...blah blah blah" :)

thanks again and cheers!

I like this.

Particularly like the progression in the intro segments and the am radio effect, and the harmonies in the chorus are cool. Snare reminds me of Alex Van Halen's which I don't care for, not enough crack. Drums are well played though. The only part of the song that doesn't do it for me is the vocal in the verse - seems to be missing something but I'm not sure what.

Great job overall, if it was me I'd be proud of this. Has a bit of radioplay potential

Good jumpin vibe to this.. vocals remind me of Offspring at some points. I think the snare sound works for me kinda of a boxy feel. Maybe I'd like to hear a little more bass worked in. Intricate arrangement, I liked many different segments to the song.
