A common error, even those of us that own the at2020 make this mistake from time to time, but the AT2020 isn't a LDC, it's SDC or maybe MDC if you're generous. same capsule as an AT2021 pencil condensor. Same sound too, more or less (very similar at least).

Just looks like a LDC. This is one reason why it's so superior to "other" LDCs on things that traditionally sound best on SDC, like acoustic guitar and some single classical instruments and some aux percussion instruments.

Yes, I know. I was being sloppy. I'm actually kind of surprised that's the only one I put in the wrong place.

Well I think the shure drum kit (not the pg series) is a good way to if you can find a decent deal. Comes with 3 sm57's and a beta 52 along with three drum mounts. The beta 52 is a great kick mic. It might be a hair more picky than some others but, I like that. I can really tune my kick sound with it.
I can pretty much eleminate snare snare bleed with the right angle too.

You pretty much get 1 sm57 and the mounts for free when you get a decent deal on this kit. You can of course get the beta 52 seperate.

The Shure DMK57-52 is not cheap over here in England £380+!

Maybe one of the Audix kits would be a better buy?

Holy Cow that's damn near $800.00 US. It's only $400.00 here.

You'd be better of to buy from the U.S. and pay shipping and customs I bet.

Well standard choice of many is the AKG D112. Maybe it's cheaper over there. I have never used any audix except an I5 so I would rather not comment. Hopefully someone that knows the situation over there better can comment.

I go in spurts. Right now I am trying to gear up to go public so I've been selling off live gear in order to get recording gear.
In the last month I have got 2 at-4031's and a Karma K6. I got a mpa gold preamp and different tubes and I have a Joe Meek One Q on the way.
Just building 6 Wood framed 703 panels today (dark purple of course).
Busy, Busy.

Always wanted a pair of sm81 mics. some day Have used them in a studio before and the seem pretty smooth as far as sdc's go Could have been the board or pre's though Still I want a pair!!

Alas, for the moment, I could only afford one, so I am still recording acoustic parts in mono. It has a surprisingly low output, even less than the other SDC's I've dealt with. I know they have a lower ouput anyway, but this thing takes almost all the gain my DMP-3 has to offer, when the old MXLs I sold off took maybe 4/5 or 3/4 what it requires.

And yea, I lost it long ago... but it really wasn't until I started frequenting this site and learning so much that I reaaally got a taste for gear, and how much money one can easily sink into this little venture of ours. Hell, I just dropped 110 bucks on cable at redco.com... upgraded to Mogami from the no-name musician's friend mic cables I've been using

Ya know, the mic is damn flat/accurate, and sounds great. It just seems to require a noticeable amount of extra gain as compared to the other SDC's I've tried. Sounds great on my acoustic (for how mediocre the instrument itself sounds).

It was rather quiet for the finger-picking stuff, so I switched to a pick, which I never use (hence the sloppy playing ). When recording fingerstyle, it was too noisy outside to get anything useable before.
