We have a number of cheap vocal mics for vox at practice.
We have a Beta 52a bass mic which we use for almost everything! Tom samples, bass guitar, guitar! Nice warm fat sounding mic. Best buy we have got.
we have a few AKG mics we use for overheads, and a couple of Shure MKII (look like SM57s)
Oops, I think we have about 10 mics, but only a few are even usuable for recording! I know what I want from Santa. :)

Just starting out, my favorite mic so far is the sennheiser md 421 on kick/snare/amps and vocals...the ribbon is nice for room and vocals too

Microphones:
Sennheiser MD 421 (2)
Philips EL 6011
Philips condenser electret N8410 (2)
T. Bone RB500 Ribbon Microphone
Crappy Dynamics/crystals (many)
AKG DX 11 with built in spring reverb (“1963: The DX 11 reverb microphone is an innovative idea which, however, is not accepted by the market. This is one of the few flops in AKG's history of success.”)

(3) AKG C 414
(1) Perception 200
(1) RE20

(1) Mic without a label that somehow landed in my equipment box. (I have no idea what it is. I only use it to give instructions to artist on the monitoring chain to keep the yelling to a minimum)

Wow, 4 years and going still. Huge thread. And still I only have 11 rep power. What does that mean anyway? When I was really active on the board there was no such thing.
My list has changed considerably though.

I noticed both you guys have Oktavas. Have you had them modded? I have a Octavamod 219 thats pretty damned nice. I havent had the chance to really put it to the test, but so far it seems very smooth.

I have an Oktavmodded PE 219 that I've gotten to use on a couple of recordings. Very smooth indeed. One of my best gear purchases ever I'd have to say!

I have not had mine modded; I was planning on it a few years ago, when I first heard there was a mod, but times got tougher, and money went to food. I have since mostly forgotten about the 219 :(
