A little mic porn

Porn is it...like geriatric porn...special-olympics porn? Maybe you mean toilet-cam porn? You have a few nice mics there, but an aweful lot of crap too.

Hmmm. Aside from the AKG C1000, what are you considering "an aweful lot of crap"?

I would gladly take some of that "crap" off your hands

By no means "mic porn", but I have added a couple of mics so an update:

Shure SM-81
Electro Voice N/D267
Groove Tubes GT66
Beyerdynamic MC740

Hard to believe this thread has been going for most of 4 years and 23 pages.

Here's my contribution!

I run an SR company as well as the recording studio, so some mics were purchased for live sound.

LCDs:

CAD M177 --------- I like this mic. Sounds very neutral to me. My first LDC.
AT AT3525 --------- I picked this up cheap on eBay several years ago. Sounds alot like the AT4033a.
AT AT4033a -------- I like this mic on banjo, mandolin, some guitars. I have used it on vocals, but I have better mics now.
ADK Vienna ------ Great vocal mic, especially on females.
ADK Hamburg ----- This is my go to mic on male vocals.

SDCs:

MXL 603s x 2 ----- My "go to" mic for hi hats, cowbells, blocks and some acoustic guitars.
AKG C1000S x 2 ---- These were my first SDC mics. I've used them on acoustic insrtuments and as overhead mics on drum kits.
Sony ECM-22 ----- This mic I picked up cheap on the 'Bay. Some snares and hats.
CAD 95 ----- I like the sound of this mic on some vocals. I'd use it more in live situations, but it feeds back easily. Mainly spoken word without monitors.
Audix C-1 x 2 ----- Found these on eBay also. Was unable to find any info anywhere, but they went cheap! Great as OHs for drum kits and some acoustic guitars.

Podium:

AT Gooseneck mic - No name x 2 ---- I use these for choir micing.

Ribbons:

Tape Op Group Buy x 2 --- Haven't used these much yet. Trying to find time to do some mods that I've read about. Kind of "wolly" sounding out of the box. Same mic as the PPA, Shiny Box. Apex, etc.

PZMs:

AT AT871R x 2 ---- I've used these for ambient sounds and sometimes for choirs.

Dynamics:

Stedman N90 ---- I like this mic on some guitar amps. An SM57 alternative.
Sennheiser MD421 mkII ---- I've used this mic on kick, floor tom and bass amps.
Shure SM7 ---- Same apps as the 421 above plus I love this mic on certain vocals. A "go to" for stressed vocals.
Shure SM58 x 4 --- Mainly live vocals.
Shure SM57 x 4 --- Snare, toms, guitar amps, anywhere and everywhere!
Shure SM62 ---- I've used this on toms when I didn't own as many mics.
Shure SM18B x 3 ---- I have one of these mounted on my banjo for live use. They're tiny mics. I've also used them for live choirs.
Shure 14L Prologue ---- Just been in the family forever!

AT ATM25 x 2 ---- Love these on kick and bass amps.
AT ATM23HE ---- Another alternative to the SM57.
AT ATM21 ---- Ditto

Audix D1 ---- I used this on a snare once and it scared me! I'm still looking for something else to try it on!
Audix D2 x 3 --- Love these on toms. Also some amps.
Audix D4 ----- Great on floor toms.
Audix i5 x 2 --- Another replacement for the SM57. I like it better on alot of snares. Also nice on guitar amps.

EV 635A x 2 --- I've used these as choir mics, in certain places.

AKG D190E ---- Another snare mic.

DBX RTA x 2 ---- Possible OHs. I want to try them on some acoustic instruments just to see how they work.

Several AT wireless handheld and lapel mics for school shows, etc.

My list has grown, but so has the business. Alot of these mics were purchased used, based on something I'd read or heard. I'm still looking for the right place for some. Figure I can get my money back out of most. But truthfully I love mics, so it's unlikely that I'll ever sell any of them!!

My list hasn't changed much for the last few years, but some additional mikes appear to be in my immediate future and then I don't expect much to change for a while. I'm strong on old, out of production, dynamic mikes.

Current list:

SM-57 (4) - Used to be 7, but I sold or traded some. Honestly, I rarely use these any more. They're really strong medicine to my ears.

EV RE-55 (4) - Used all the dang time on just about anything and everything. Very natural sound... the most accurate dynamic omni ever.

AKG D19 (2) - These are fun because they have CBS tags on them. I really like how these mikes sound on my voice.

AKG D24E (1) - This one sees some action miking guitar cabs.

Sennheiser MD-441 - Mainly on voice, has seen action on snare and guitar cabs.

AT 4050 (1) - Used to have two. I use the fig-8 setting on voice and as overhead on drums. Cardioid setting on voice sometimes, omni setting sometimes on drums or anything else where I want a brighter sound with a high end peak in the 6K-7K range.

Shure SM10A (1) - Basic headworn mike, I mainly have used it when I play the synths through the vocoder, though I'm using an RE-55 for that now.

On the way:
About to come my way are a pair of Shure SM-80 (omni) capsules and probably a pair of SM-81s so I can actually use the SM-80 capsules. I plan to use the SM-80s for the same sorts of things I use the RE-55s for, which is just about everything.

I just bought a few to round out my collection, but now I have 7 micophones.

- shure sm 57
- AKG D 1000
- Sennheiser E 609
- Karma .99 cent mic
- Karma .99 cent mic
- ADK A-51 Hamburg
- Blue 8 Ball

The last four I purchased because I had no condenser microphones. For my purposes (just home hobby recording), I won't likely be buying anymore microphones.

Update!

Just added another SM7 (original not "a" or "b"). Single most used mic I have, so time to get another one.

Looking at a pair of C414BULS and 4 - C460b.

You can never have enough mics! :D :D
