Wow, there's a lot of nice mic lockers here.
Mine ain't that crazy yet but works fine. On the hunt for a Sennheiser MD421 or two and a 414 as soon as my shitty monetary situation allows me to.

Oktava MK-319
Neuman KMS105
SM57's (3)
SM58's (2)
Beyer Dynamic M201 TG
AKG D112
Beyer Dynamic XM-D 58 2x
Sennheiser E835
B&O BM3 (needs repair)
Weird Sansui mics (2x)
Shure Prologue (80's low end 58-ish thing, looks cool for talkback...)

You know I thought I was a member here before but couldn't find a login that worked - just found an old-ish post from 5 years ago that shows me as a "guest" using my more common screen name/pseudonym. Huh. Well, I wasn't lying about not needing much else. I've only added a single mic (RØDE NTG1) since then. I do mostly recording away from home, and so the little collection I have for my music room has been fine for the little bit I do. I am optimistic about getting a SM7b for birthday+xmas, if the missus gets a nice bonus :). As my baritone gets gravellier every year, I have to believe it's going to help...

Some nice lists in here!
Do you use the d12 much, witzendoz ?
I have a lovely one here that never comes out of the box, because I never record live kits, but I know selling it would be short sighted.

Sometimes on Kick instead of the D112 if I want an older sound, I actually carry it around inmy PA mics case and use it at some gigs on kick, a bit risky for such a rare mic I know LOL.

I am also thinking of trying it on my double bass sometime in the future, usually use a condenser but the D12 was used on a lot of old recordings once.

Alan

Cool! Yeah, it's one of those mics you buy bubble wrap and foam for! lol.
If you ever fire it up on double bass, I'd love to hear how it goes.

I hate this topic because while some people collect guitars, I collect microphones. Stupid, of course as I regularly use just a very small number. In a typical week I use:
SM7B
414
I have no idea how many I really have on shelves, in 8 mics boxes and in plastic dump bins, plus radio mics too. The sennheiser handheld radios have paid for themselves many times over, but, most are just nice to have and some have never been used.
Easily over 100.
why would anyone want 5 AKG451s from 40 years ago, and I even have a box of AKG D190's. I cannot remember using them for anything. A very stupid hobby really, but I just keep buying them when I see them to add to the collection.

I've always liked Alan Parson's music, so when he endorsed Audio Technica 4033A's, I bought one of those. Used it in November for one little job, put it back in the store straight after!

I am with you too... I will find decent prices and get them for some undefined need in the future where by chance I have to mic-up a hypothetically large band that has never called me...LOL

I did a quick off the top of me head inventory and I came up with 56 minimum... I am sure there are a few I have stashed elsewhere...

I only have a few mics. I'll do my best. About 17 years ago I ditched all my cheap mics and started buying good ones one at a time, starting with my used MA-200. I have enough mics now to do whatever I need to, but if someone is recording alone at home I would say buy two or three great mics used vs a bunch of cheapos. YMMV.

Neumann U87ai ($1000) - gets a bad rap and is beat up. That sounds good to me on everything.
(2) Mojave MA-200 (both used, can't remember the price, too long ago.) - Set up permanently as kit mics
Mojave MA-201 - not that expensive, and wish I had two of these vs the 200s - great on the outside kick.
Three Earthworks - QTC-1, SR-77, and something else. The QTC-1 is fantastic on so many things. The other thing I forgot is that I love it on snare. I traded a cheap Zemaitis recent model guitar for these.
(2) Telefunken M-80, 1 M-81 and M-82 - bought as a kit. It's super good, I couldn't be happier. The 82 gets used a ton.
(2) Royer R-10 - pretty cool. Nice on guitars. Good on the room. Affordable.
AEA R-84 - bought open box. Great on vocals, AG, drum oh, room, etc., do what it does, but it's good!

I buy old Shure, EV, etc. mics for video props when I go to the flea market. Have an old SM-7; never got the hype. Also have a couple of cool Turner dynamics an EV CS15E (Elvis mic) never use these. I have a 58 that I don't use.

If I could have one mic, it would be the internet-hated U87ai. I had a TLM-103 and liked that through a 610, so maybe it's me.

If I could only have two, it would be the U87ai and the QTC. Earthworks aren't popular, but if you have good sources, they're hard to beat.

I leave my 87 up all the time because it sounds good on everything. A lot of the time I just want to be done and don't have time to sit around and audition things for songwriting and demos. The 87 sounds good enough that if I get a keeper it will be good enough.
