I don't know where else to put this. Anyone know where one might find/buy one? I can't find anything online. Just browsing right now but I really want one. Thanks.

Blimey, they are pretty rare these days. You might be able to get a very expensive one from Ebay.
Or a new one from Streetly: http://www.mellotronics.com/
Or there's the new digital one: http://www.manikin-electronic.com/en/products_memotron.html
Or, a cheap sample based alternative, G-Force M-tron, which I use and love, though it isn't quite the same as the real thing, of course. http://www.gforcesoftware.com/
Mellotrons and Chamberlins are amazing! Here's a good studio for them: http://www.roth-handle.nu/

One just went for sale recently from Olympia, WA via ebay. Don't know how much the M4000 from Streetly runs. You can get a new one hand made from David Kean (who picked up the ashes of Mellotron Digital) at www.mellotron.com for US$6,800.00, which is probably close to what they cost in the early 70s if adjusted for inflation. A vintage one will run you easily $2000-4000, or more depending on condition.

I would try to get one of the newer digital ones as the old tape reel Mellotrons were notorius for being a PAIN IN THE ASS!!! Very user unfriendly and constantly breaking down.

Chamberlin??? somebody CMIIW but Didn't the mellotrons pretty much put Chamberlin out of business?

I tried one in the 70's. Sure sounded cool but it was very, very limited and the unit has a reputation for being a technical nightmare. Like a whole bunch of old tape recorders in one box. Help!

You only have time to fight so many battles so you've gotta pick them wisely... I wouldn't pick that battle.

I'm looking for a Mac editor for my Oberheim Matrix 1000. That would be a more productive journey than a Melletron I think. The Matrix 1000 was the rack mount version of the Matrix 6 (Eddie played one in "Jump") and that thing has never, ever been explored like it could be. It's incredible... fat analog meat. The most incredible synth I know of and they're selling for $400.

That's a more worthwhile journey, to me anyways.

I remember in the 90s wanting to get a mellotron and where I lived in Islington, there was this place that refurbished and maintained them. But I could never find the place !! When I went looking for it among these warehouses, it was like the Twilight zone.....
I've dug the mellotron for many a year so when the G Media M-TRON came out, I bought one. There are so many sounds in it {some that didn't even exist in the mellotron's heyday} and many of them are pretty ropey. But there are some damn good sounds in there that are more than useable and it has some basic tweakability. And you don't get back pain and hernias lugging it about....:D

Emu Vintage Keys!

Probably one of the best modeling modules for mellotron (and Chamberlain) sounds out there. As far as Vsti's, M-tron is cool also. Memotrons are VERY cool, but also VERY expensive.

Sorry, ChamberLIN! Typing too fast...
