You know this is extremely good - in every respect. Compliments and congratulations! In fact it is so good in capturing the spirit, substance and feel of the original that one has to question why such obviously talented musicians/home recordists such as yourselves would "squander" their talents and time doing what the Who did (and wrote) back in 71/72. Whatever. Respect. Now, Who's Next, to do what's been done?

Doing covers is fun, especially when it's after doing a bunch of originals. It's also a good learning experience. I've learned a lot about song-writing, arranging, mixing, production, etc...by doing the occasional cover.

Everyone involved in this tune does very good originals in their own right.

They decided to have some fun. Oh! the horror!!! :)

It is very good. Nothing to add other than, very good work all round and I enjoyed it

This ^^^^^^^^^

We're so awesome that we take breaks from our usual awesomeness to be awesome at someone else's stuff.

Relax. It's just for fun. We all do our own originals.

Sounds real good. I think the vocals are a bit loud. The whole thing sounds clear. I don't think I've seen you post what mics you use for the drums. Are you using CAD's??? I think I saw that somewhere, but they sound way to good to be CAD's.

They're CADs.

WWWWWWHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!??!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!? CAD PRO 7's!?!?!?!?! THE CHEAPOS!?!?!?!

I guess it all depends on drum tuning, room, mic placement, and processing. I'm utterly amazed.

I tell people that all the time. It's like I'm beating a dead fucking horse. People are so fucking dumb and snobby about mics. That's why I never enter the douchey mic section of this site. Sure, of course some mics are better than others, but fucking hell, get your fucking shit together and damn near any mic will work on drums.

That's probably why I have gotten the wrong impression on these mics. Youtube videos make them sound like shit, but then again, the drums were probably mixed by someone who thinks boosting everything 20db at 12k sounds "cool." I think I'll give those mics a shot then. Maybe I should get a drumset first. xD

Since I'm on the subject, any decent kits you recommend? Preferably less than or around $1,000. I would be fine with a 5 piecer, a double bass pedal, and some nice cymbals. I'm thinking I might get a Tama Rockstar eventually. Small room, but I might be able to work something out. Drums were my first instrument, but it has been years since I had a kit. Software drums just don't do it for me anymore.

Everything on youtube is garbage. If you or anyone else happens to think my drums sound okay, then that's all the proof you need that the CAD Pros will be serviceable. Best ever? No way. Good enough for some home recorder shmoe and demos? Most definitely. And even if you hate my drums, it's probably not the mics. I tune em to tones that I like, and mix em the way I want, and not everyone feels the same way. A lot of people hate my drums because they hate me and they think it hurts my feelings. They're my favorite. :D

Anyway, any quality name-brand kit is gonna be fine if you're on a budget and don't have any specific drum needs. Tama, Pearl, Yamaha, Ludwig, Mapex, whatever. They're all good. Even their cheaper series are plenty good enough for recording. The heads you choose, how you tune them, and your playing skill is gonna dictate the sound you get way more than the name on the front kick head. But for a grand, you're probably gonna need to go used all the way. Cymbals alone can eat into a thousand bucks really quickly. A decent double pedal is easily 200 bucks by itself. Scour ebay and craigslist for complete kits with cymbals that interest you.

Alright cool. Thanks for the tips. I live near a pawn shop style music store, so maybe I'll head down there and look for a deal.
