From the deepest, darkest corners of the cosmos, three individuals from very different musical backgrounds came together through cyberspace to gingerly touch tips and unleash the greatest cover ever of a song from one of the greatest bands ever. An idea sparked from the demented techno mind of KCearl, and presented to the deranged Greg_L, it couldn't possibly fail. It needed one ingredient though...a voice. The no-brainer choice was, of course, the booming pipes of JoeyM, so he was enlisted and graciously accepted his place in the unholy trinity of awesomeness that will from this day forth be knows as.... The Whotards.

Enjoy!

Very Kewl,

I'd have used less distortion on the guitars though. Vox are great. Drums are great. Keys are a nice interpretation, very creative. Funny I was just thinking about doing a cover of something off "Sell Out" Manslick you could sing it perfectly. To my knowledge these tunes have never been re-made: Our luv was, Marianne, Tattoo. All sung by Pete T. from The Who (greatest band ever) Sell Out.

Oh and very nice mix G....you did us all justice ya mixing wizard..and although I like everything for some reason I find myself zooming in on the bass, you really get a great bass sound mate, amongst everything else...

good job...and that keyboardist is handsome as fuck!

Thanks for the vote of confidence but I've never heard Sell Out. After Live at Leeds I only heard a Who on the radio. Now, Young Man Blues from LAL. That I'd like to cover.

My band used to do Young man blues in the early 80s, great tune. Mose Allison (The dude who wrote it) actually lived on Long Island. I think you'd need Joey to sing that one. If you get the chance look up some of those songs, I think you'd really enjoy them.

Everyone has a "shoulda coulda woulda" story so I'll tell mine. I was in a cover band in the early 80s, we did alot of the Who and had quite a loyal following. The band had all the ingredients, chicks loved the singer etc, I couldnt convince them to start writing originals though. With alot of the right help,(which we were offered, and turned down) we may have been a U2 type band. Thats my 15min of fame LOL.

Thanks guys. It was a pleasure collabing with kcearl and joey. They did their stuff in a timely manner and it was very good quality.

The distorted guitars were a personal choice made by all of us. I went back and forth on em. The first runs were way more distorted and it didn't sound good to me. The next runs were too clean. This is somewhere in the middle, leaning more towards a modern sound.

Sounds fine. The big power chord sound from those days isnt that easy to re-create. Job well done!
I wanted to use my buddies Hiwatt, but he said it's got a bad tube. I think he lied to me!

Love it! My favorite Who song too! :D

He's just jealous because you can play it better than him.

Townsend wouldn't allow any political or charity/enviro grops use this song - it was too close to him & THEN he let a dumb cop show snavel it up. He's a hero &, like many heroes, a disappointment.
At least this isn't disappointing.
I think the guitars are poifect.
The keys are great - not slavish, not too far removed & !
The voice - yet more evidence that the singer can own almost any genre he cares to yoddle in.
the bass - well JE always had a distinctive sound with a good growl & this holds that place handsomely.
Drums - what machine/program did you use? (joke Joyce!) Greg moons Moon! Don't join the Who Greg, they've have a Spinal Tap relationship with drummers!
This really is air guitar induction time.
Fabbo.
I'll be keeping this one.
