Mediocrity

My first set of lyrics posted here. To give it some context, it's for a concept album entitled "Living Up To Other Peoples Expectations". Inspired by real people, but I'm not naming names (not anybody on here, in case you're paranoid).

mediocrity is a trait revered
high achievers something to fear
second best is good enough
concensus is who gves a stuff

so stop the world I wanna get off
I'm dying on this martyr's cross
my high ideals the price I paid
has cost me more than I can say

you don't have to be the best
but here's something I might suggest
be the best that you can be
an honest go will set you free

Umm, pedestrian?

Too many colloquialisms for me.

“who gives a stuff” is that some Aussi slang (you misspelled gives)

What I do like is in the second stanza where you go right to giving up. Man that ain’t mediocre that is plain bohemian self pity.

Then the line about being a marty - out of nowhere.

I think if you changed the order it’d make more sense

my high ideals the price I paid
has cost me more than I can say
so stop the world I wanna get off
I'm dying on this martyr's cross

This is interesting and a bit provocative but too terse for my taste. Don’t dangle a carrot, I like a whole stew.
