Get this... saw a guy's monitor stands, made of four 4x4 douglas fir posts, bolted together with HUGE bolts. All bashed up and dinged up, stained dark and evil, they look like pillars from some medieval castle.
And they were HEAVY. Looked cool as hell, AND quite functional. So if you don't want to glue cinder blocks together, consider a few 4x4 posts! Wish I took pictures. Might have to go back there....
