Hey guys, just a quick question. I was thinking about getting a md421 for recording bass guitar, also for mic'ing the amp though the mixing board playing live. A couple of local guys around here say, " we don't mic our amp, we just run line out to the mixer. " If that's true, then why spend all that money for a mic? Any feedback ???

A 421 in front of the speaker will give you a totally different sound from the DI.

I think you will like it, for it will be a lot more 'pushing' than the direct out of the amp.

The 421 is an exellent choice.

Going direct has the general benefit of being the cleaner, closer to the source choice, which makes it the 'when in doubt-go-to'.
The mic is an alt pic if the rationale is to get the tone from the amp.
In a live setting, that will include some stage bleed.

Thanks for the replys guy's. Sometimes I have to wonder about the input I get from some of the local guys. DJL, I'm going to check out that Avalon Design U5. Thanks.....
