MD421 mic for my amp (less harsh than SM57b on heavy guitars)

I listened to this song this morning so I couldn't take time to post and now I don't remember anything except that I liked the song and especially liked the double guitar part.

It definitely had a smoother, less harsh sound than you had been getting. I agree that maybe it could use just a little, teeny, tiny bit of that back.

You da' man around here for sure. I guess I'm gonna have to start lobbying for another collab!~ :D

M. Brane- yes, the experimentation is definitely the best part of it all.

tubedude- yeah, I like this amp and the new mic. Maybe the regular sm57's are good for this stuff, but the 57beta was definitely harsh compared to this 421. The 421 sounds very much like what I hear in the room. When you do listen to this, remember that I haven't done any EQ yet, so it's a little boomy and the guitar levels are up front a bit. There will also be some real bass in the final "product." But this gives the idea. If you want I'll put this one on your 5 song heavy thing.

Jason Bird- Cool man..thanks!

Lt. Bob- yeah Steve, I definitely want to work with you again soon. It's been far too long. I'm trying to finish up the tracks for my CD but I've got some tunes that are burning holes in my skull. As soon as I get back to that stuff I'll be knocking on your inbox. Thanks so much!

If you ever watch any of the old reruns of Hollywood Squares....crappy show...but they did use white md421's... that's all the info I have.

I'll bet you have one of those crappy black ones!!! ;)

guitars sound very good to me
good song to...i like it

.......'scuse me ........oops,sorry......I'm just drunk and stumbling thru your thread......don't mind me........easy, let me squeeze by......ok.....carry on......

(tosses a handful of dimes at the burping wino on the sidewalk...)

Ah... now some crunch... and pick slide...

The acoustics sound more intimate now...

New vocals... new drums... jeez... "remix" my tuckus... rerecording is the word... any of the original tracks?? At all?

Nice synth patch...

The guitars definitely have a raw edge... almost to the point of the "nasty" gritty distortion, but you keep it back.... and under control... are you compressing the guitars before the amp, after, or in software?

Oh, right... running into the bathroom and jumping out the window... beating on his chest... another one of Tom's hair-braned schemes... hatched right out of Scooby Doo... but, will it save her life??

Wait a sec... where'd the hair-brained plan go??? Damn!! New singing instead :( (nice job, btw...)

How many guitars do you have? (Tracks, I mean...) If there's just the two... try tracking two more, pan them in closer... and change the tone... go from bridge to neck... different fret positions... compression settings... could make the guitars even larger. Throw some delay on the new tracks (10-30 ms)... (just some hair-brained mix plans here :))

Still left wanting to hear ... "I'm going to go into the bathroom... you've GOT to call the police... just get me home..." :D

I didn't read any of the other comments

Hmm different type of song. I'm sure you are influenced by someone but nothing I'm familar with so I'd have to say very original tune. Liked the drums. Some sort of pitch transposer for the solo notes or double-tracked very well. I found the sound of sliding across the strings a little distracting, could be me though, my ears are getting funky. Thanks for the post.

I guess this thread is alive again...

mixmkr- Yep...crappy black one. :)

jimistone- Thanks.

Lt. Bob- :)

Participant- Hi Chad. There are two electrics in the verses and 4 in the chorus. Thanks for checking it out.

Ismellelephant- Oh, you're just a little south of me I see. Hello New Englander. Yeah, that guitar duet is actually two separate tracks...harmonies. Not pitch shifting. I improvised one solo, then I worked out the harmony on top of it. Thanks.

As always...

A pleasure to hear your stuff. Welcome to Sennhieser territory. I've been using the 835 for vox and acoustic guitar recordings and it's also the mic I use when I go on stage. But as far as the song goes, so much was said already and I don't think I'm yet qualified to judge.Anyway, glad to bump ya to the top :D
