Master of the Obvious
I have a few questions on the 441...
I was going to get the 421 for Guitar cabs and possibly try it on Kick and more... but I might be able to get the 441 for around $225 used. Which (i've read) has more low end and would be better for Kick, it's good on vocals, and Guitar Cabs w/ some low cut on EQ. Is this correct? @ this price wouldn't it make more sense to get the 441?

It's the MD-441-U What is the U all about?

Is it hard to find a replacement mic holder... this one is cracked but functional. If they're expensive, it probably wouldn't be worth it.

Thanks for any input,
B.

Well, I would say the 441 is the more superior mic in MOST instances. But not all.
I think it does a great job on a guitar cab, and so does the 421. Both definatly sound different on dirty guitars, but they can make for an awesome combo run 441 left, double 421 right. Different sounds.
The 421 is pretty well known to do well in a kick and on guitar cab, but I would not put my 441 in a kick for anything. Not that it woudlnt sound good, I dunno, but I just wont take that chance with my favorite mic. Not worth the risk.
The 441 does require a lot of gain, and it definately has a character thats of itself. Vocals are ususally better on a 441 too (better than most any other mic in that price range for that matter, maybe some high shelving, but the mic is so smooth that the shelving wont grit your head off).
I did all the guitars and overdubs with the 441 on the song I have up in the clinic labeled "Ketchup Stigmata" but keep in mind that the amps I was recording were cheapo, and would have been way hetter if they had been of better quality.
THe vocals were a Soundelux though, not the 441.
Its worth the price and will be the most versatile and most used mic you have even when offered many other choices.

Risk? There's no "risk" unless your 441 has "issues", in which case you should get it serviced anyway. While I can certainly understand why your 441 is among your favorite microphones... the fact of the matter is that it can handle drum tasks with out a problem.

Personally, I generally prefer 421's on kik drums to 441's... but you can use a 441 in that application without worrying about damaging the critter.

Thanks for the encouragement, but for some reason it just doesnt "feel" good to me putting it in a kick. Probably just paranoia, but I cant help it. Just feels risky for whatever reason my inner mind has created. :)

You know Paul,

You should have enough decency about your self to tell me what's going on?

If you can't work it out, just send my monitor back.

How long am I suppose to wait to even hear from you ?

You received my package on May 12th and I am still waiting to just hear from you ???????????

You know what's really sad. You have enough time to post on the BBS but you sure as hell can't find the time to email me!

Just a little advice, next time you deal with some one, keep the communication open untill the DEAL IS COMPLETE!

Very frustrated

Well I didn't get it... damn! It was at $212 w/ 30 seconds left on Ebay... I bid up to $250 and still lost, so someone got it for $255.

This might be hard to believe... but another one popped up starting at $100 w/ a buy it now for $200 (w/ no Mic Clip). That seemed a little to good to be true and since it had 7 days left I thought I'd research it a little more... It's Gone. Hmmm?

I found a rubber 441 Mic clip (won't break like the plastic one) for $30. http://www.mvpav.com/senmzq441.html if anyone needs one.

So I'm thinking for a all around utility Mic (57 like) the 421 would be better anyway. If I see a 441 again for <$225 I'll probably check it out and having both seems like a good idea.

Thanks,
B.

Hehe Booda

I was watching that auction too, but the old lady caught wind of it and shut me down :( There were a couple of other 441 auctiions at the same time and one ended with reserve not met at 220.
Guess will have to be happy with the 421 I got for 212 last month. It is sweet on guitar and the old lady will use it this week live. Goodbye sm58.
