i want to use more mic inputs, it only has 2. does anyone know about something i can get to make be able to do this???

Along with its two microphone inputs, it also has 2 1/4" inputs. Which means if you get a preamp for two more channels, you can run them into pro tools which would give you 4 inputs. Is 4 channels enough for what you want to record?

With say an M-audio Dmp3, youll have 2 more channels of pre-amplification.

If you are looking for more than 4 channels I guess you are looking for a new product? Digidesign 003 does up to 16 channels of simultaneous inputs, if you want to stick with pro-tools. A less expensive alternative that isn't pro-tools, is a Presonus Firepod.

Clarify your question, we may be able to answer it better. Also, use the search function and read up on product descriptions. It will all become more clear with time. Good luck, Eric:)

as posted before you can run any preamp into the line inputs. when i have the Mbox2 pro i used the DMP3. an Art MPA Gold would be good here or really whatever you can afford. although if you can only spring for 150 or so it would be very hard to beat the DMP3.

you can also go into the Spdif channels for yet two more inputs but i doubt that you will find a preamp with spdif capability that you will want to pay for.

i always wanted to try the apogee mini me although that costs basically the same as the mbox so i decided to just upgrade to the DIGI003.

Huh? So I guess your still wanting that mini me, eh?

haha...i get your meaning. and touche. for the record though i'll post some observations.

a lot of the slack that the 003 gets is based on the 002 (preamps etc)

the conversion on my 003 is exponentially better than on my old Mbox. listening back to mixes that i did on the Mbox that i believed sounded pretty decent i hear many problems with them that seem to have been masked when listening on the Mbox. the 003 just has more detail both going in and going out. the preamps also are not terrible. they don't have any color, they also don't get in the way. they may not be as detailed as others but i don't feel that they detract from the sound when i do use them for things like toms and the occaisional guitar track. i think i could make an entire recording with them and it would sound fine. i do however want to strive for more than fine so i'm going for better things.

would i love to have 2 channels of apogee to go into the spidf or even an 8 channel ADAT unit? yes of course but i can't afford it right now and it's no longer the weakest link in my chain. right now i'm focusing on room treatment and doing things to make my workflow more efficient.

if you can't make a decent recording on the 003 start to finish then there is something wrong i would say.
