The mbox mini 2 was great for a year straight, I had minimal problems and all of a sudden pro tools would start crashing. The crashing progressively got worse and it eventually came down to not being able to open pro tools because my computer would not read the mbox. There is power to the mbox but my computer does not recongnize it. I have tried reinstalling both pro tools and mbox software and updating drivers and still no luck.

Could it be an internal wiring problem? Bad usb coord? I havent found an answer for this on other forums so hopefully you guys can help me out so I can get back to making music!

Thanks for any help

James

Hey,
First thing to do is to try the mbox in another computer to see if it's recognised at all.
Try it with a different USB lead too to rule that out. Any old USB cable (printer?) will do fine.

Is it shown in device manager, even if it's just as a generic audio device?

Since it sounds like a gradual failure, it might be worth opening the mbox and posting pics of the inside for the forum.
Try on another machine first, though.

I tried on both my pc and my labtop. My friend also tried on his computer. I guess its time to open this bitch up.

If you're outside warranty, absolutely certain that device manager doesn't see the device at all (regardless of drivers etc), and certain that the cable is fine, then sure...
Fire up some pics. :)

It's only USB bus powered, but as with any electrical equipment...Unplug it and be careful.
Also, only open it if you're happy to do so. I'm not twisting your arm or anything. ;)

Avid's drivers can be confusing and it's very easy to install the wrong one, but I'm thinking since it did work and gradually died, that's nothing to do with it, right?

I probably won't be able to give advice, but there are a few guys floating around who might spot something. Who knows.
