So should a compressor be used before the MBox, since it has built in Pres

assuming you're asking about a microphone-->compressor-->preamp.....no

a compressor accepts line level signal, and putting the preamp after the compressor defeats this. Now if you're talking about a channel strip that has a preamp/compressor in it--->Mbox, then yes....but just switch the mbox to accept line.

always go mic-->mic pre (unless you have a pad in there, but that's a whole 'nother thing)
