A friend is trying to run Pro Tools LE with an Mbox on a brand new titanium Powerbook G4. Even on the lowest functions it gives a message that "cpu usage is holding off USB audio (Error 9136)". We think that it is just an issue between the Mbox and the g4, because we tried with DP4 and got the same kind of thing. There is no way that thi is a processing power issue, as he has 2 gigs of RAM.

What type of system works best with the new g4?

Anyone have any insight into this issue?

Thanks,
Tom.

here's a few things to try:

1) First make sure you don't have any other programs running. Antivirus, internet programs, etc.

2) Put your buffer size as low as you can without getting any digital glitches in the audio.

3) Make sure you aren't running any plugins while recording. This will slow your CPU down

4) Try updating to the latest firmware on the Mbox: http://www.digidesign.com/download/mbox/

5) Try recording to a dedicated audio hard drive. Recording to the system drive can bog down the computer.

6) Try going to the System Preferences>Energy Saver>Options>Processor Performance and choose the highest setting

7) Try disabling your ethernet port. I've heard of some situations where the Mac periodically trys to check for an ethernet connection and thus slowing the preventing USB streaming. Likewise, also disable airport or bluetooth services.

hopefully that may help.
