I'm using some old spare matresses and blankets as sound absorbers because i'm a cheap ass, and I think I got it down on vocals, but where should I place the absorbers for guitar recording. I was thinking just putting one matress directly behind the amp?

haha. funny, but that actually did remind me of something. My floor is all tiles. Should I try to place my amp above a matress as well?

If you're recording an amp up close with a cardioid dynamic mic, the room shouldn't be a huge issue. Also, it's not a good idea to kill all reflections -- that will just lead to a dull muddy mess. You could try building a little tunnel/cave out from the speaker cabinet and put the mic in there. I don't really know. Just mess around with things until it sounds good.

C'mon all, it's obvious this is a troll.

And not a very funny or original one at that.

I'm sorry........did you just call me a troll? What the hell does that mean?

he's not a troll.

scrubs covered it...... probably wont be that big a problem on a close mic'd git amp.

but if i had to choose i'd probably end up somewhere behind the mic (not directly, but pulled back some....... play with it)

and maybe lean it back a little so that it's kinda faceing the ceiling.
