Matching volume levels...and some other glitches

Hi,

Can anyone help. Im fairly new to recording and at moment am working with vocals only. I have a Boss BR1180 CD and an Electrovoice RE20 which I find is perfect for my requirements. My problems are:

a. That when i record the songs seemingly at the same levels when I burn them onto CD they seem to come out at different volumes. What area do i have to match? The output level seems to be the same throughout.

b. I have a pretty resonant voice with a lot of bass....how can i bring the bass up a bit (no clever remarks please!).

c. Occassionally i get some hiss on the finished song..is that because I need to play around with the sensitivity knob and input knob to get the balance right?

I'm sure that the solutions are pretty easy and that some of you more experienced studio buffs will have the answers.

if you have hiss on tracks you could clean it up on a pc if you have one.
if you want software recommendations . ask.
you could also do some mastering on the pc. if you wish.

Compression will raise the overall volume. Things need to be mastered to even come close to "cd DB" levels

Maybe a little hi eq cuts but mostley find a mic and pre that work well with YOUR low bass voice

This can be many things. Start by looking for ground loops.

Thanks for that. Yes I've got a pc and yes any info would be greatly appreciated. A friend recommended I download Audacity but i haven't used it yet. I want to get used to 'cleaning up' at source when I can..don't want to movec from the studio to the pc if i can help it...am going to try keeping it all streamlined otherwise it gets all complicated.

You mean cut out the hi equaliser range ? Any mics you'd recommend? and what do you mean by pre? Sorry might sound blond but am a novice here...

You aren't getting enough low end from an re-20? If you are looking for the sound that you hear in your head when you sing, it doesn't exist. I suppose you could put a contact mic on your skull to capture the resonance, but that is just silly.

audacity has a noise reduction software in it.
or try what i use - but its a little money(49 bucks).
powertracks demo from pgmusic.com. way better than audacity.
also includes 48 track recording, noise gate for cleaning up tracks and various mastering plug ins.
