This topic is intended for Masterlink users only. How are you using the product? Live recording? Mastering previously recorded material? What procedure are you using to set up the compressor for best results? Do you like the limiter? I certainly do. Do you have a way to deal with the parametric EQ? I am having problems with achieving desired EQ results. Can it be used to de-hiss or de-pop?

Mmmm... I guess I shouldn't be posting here, huh?

Yo AEL and UAW and USO:

I didn't buy a Masterlink yet; maybe I won't buy one. Seems like nobody knows much about the box; that means, THE SCOONY MANUAL IS FOR MERDA.

Ah, well, I'll wait until someone hires me to write the manual.

I own a Masterlink and love this unit! I'm not a professional engineer so the masterlink works great in my situation. It's very easy to use and I find the manual very helpful and to the point but I would like to see Alesis make a nice application manual to give some ideas on how to get the best out of the unit.I'm using this with a Roland VS-1880 because I really don't get involved with computer-based systems(not yet!)I run the digital outs into the Masterlink and that lets me take full advantage of all 18 tracks instead of mixing down to 2 tracks on the VS-1880 for mix downs you can bounce that 2 track mixdown back into the VS-1880 and that opens up more tracks for recording if you know what I mean!I can also copy CDs from other recordings that I made using the Roland burner and make a better sounding mix with the Masterlink.I also use it for backing up my recordings from the Roland down to the Masterlink to free up my hard-drive space on the VS.The software update was a snap and took about 10 seconds to do I just burned a copy of the software from the Alesis site and popped the CD into the Masterlink and BAM! it was upgraded in seconds it was that easy and if you don't have a burner Alesis is sending out a copy of the software upgrade to all registered owners. The remote control is pretty cool too......This is just my opinion but I really think the Masterlink is a great piece of gear to use and was well worth the price so if your thinking of getting one give it a chance! Thanks John...............

I also own a Masterlink and It works great. Absolutely the easiest way to make cd's that sound good! It is very easy to operate and use. Much better than dealing with DAT machines. The manual is simple to understand and out of the box you can master and burn a CD in an hour or less. I mix down to it from an analog 8 track, add some gain, limiting, etc. and burn CD copies in minutes. For the money its worth it!

Yo Ground of ZERO:

Thanks for the input, as well the other comments about Masterlink.

I think I'll get one and do some CD stuff. I haven't heard too much in the negative about the unit. Easy to use. That's nice to hear. Easy to use? I like those words.

Have ta tell ya so far this unit is T & A. Doing some MIDI (Roland 575 Dig Pi) with my wife's beautiful vocals thru CAD E350 thru ART Tube Channel and Focusrite Voicemaster direct to ADAT, bounce to ADAT edit and back, a pinch of Lexicon verb a dolup of DBX DDP a little pression ,limiting, EQ (attenuate!!)etc. etc. Then on to the ML. Love the ease of use, the variety of word lengths, sample rate and redbook or Alesis' CD24. Track gain and Paramet EQ works great as does limiter, compressor and normalizer. Really like the track cropping feature - easy to scrubb. Track fadr in/out options nice too ( ie. linear, logarithmic or inverse logarithmic) Very user friendly, easy to use and sounds fabulous. Of course I have had good experiences with Alesis and their products ( but then again I have too with my Mackie 1604 VLZ that e-body seems to love to hate! Granted it's not a Soundcraft Ghost or even an LX7, which I really like, but it rambles real good - anyway I might want to go Dig anyhow ( Tascam, Yamaha or Ramsa??), but all this is for the " let's pound the Mackie" forum SORRY for rambling myself. C I'm a mid aged old fart NOVICE goin' thru my changes chasing a passion for some tunes so forgive me. REALLY like the MASTERLINK for the FINAL tweeks we need, to think we can compete with the big guns! Gotta have that dream. c ya.
